Workin at it. I had a lot of trouble figuring out a way to get the stars to have a bit of a thrusty look to them, and also have two colors within each star. Additionally, the merging effect of translucent pixels adjacent to each other made selection maddening.. I came up with a method that uses layers as selection masks. I need to go in and help some of the planets a bit, but I dunno, that just gets to be too much. My last art professor always said my work is too "technique driven"... so I'll stop there.
I wouldn't mind doing this for my day job. BTW, the sky really does look like this. You get this zoomy star wars sensation if you can find the right location and stare at the zenith long enough to loose track of the horizon. I've only successfully sought and achieved that twice.
Redid the wolf twice because he kept looking like a terrier. I have found many ways to crash photoshop :)
Edit: I wish you could see this on my screen with the right colorspace at resolution.

That is not the basis of art; rather, the basis of art is about succeeding at communicating what you want to show. Often, technique may accurately represent the form, color, values, pattern, texture, scale, and perspective without communicating the sensation desired. The professor refers to a disruption of this order. Put more directly and simply, the technique or style get in the way of the work.
There is a fundamental and philosophical fact about art at work there: The subject represented in the media itself is a vessel for some "effect", feeling, or sensation.
Presentation :conveys: media :conveys: technique :conveys: impression/representation :conveys: effect :conveys: meaning
This order is very very important and should only be disrupted with purpose (or intentional lack of purpose). This is an order of sophistication beyond mastery of a technique; in essence, one must master their use, application, and handling of a technique.

I only use what is necessary to maintain a smooth gradient or edge in the smallest brush strokes, which isn't very high. More problematic for me is that I work with loads of layers. This comes from both my first love for collage, and my insistence on acrylic painting as a legitimate technique.
i've honestly not even dabbled with the layer types and categorizations x03
but the most i've ever used was probably....30-35? most not legitimate but experimental in case i don't like something i can just remove it without needing to deal with the absolutely horrendous stupidity of how undo works in photoshop
at that point i just merge layers to free up resources
