I went and bought Pokémon X yesterday! I found my DS just now. I am not going to play it just yet. I might for a little bit, but I have an SAT Subject Test (two, actually, Math II and Physics) that I need to study for... as it's tomorrow. But I'm still debating on whether I should choose Fennekin or Froakie. I'm certainly choosing Charmander (half the reason I wanted X is Charizard's Mega Evolution, and the other half is the legendary that is that one God displayed in Princess Mononake), so as much as I love Fennekin and want to name it Mozilla (I mean, come on... it's a fire fox), I'd then have chosen two fire type starters. Froakie's final evolution Greninja also looks so awesome, so I'm not sure whether I'll choose Froakie or Fennekin...
On a random note, because I also wanted a Wii game, and I didn't know what to buy, I asked the store manager for a puzzle/platformer/RPG game. He recommended Super Paper Mario. Now I felt that Nintendo killed the Paper Mario franchise, having not liked Sticker Star much, but I bought it anyways.
But my god. I love it. It is the perfect crossover between the original Super Mario and The Thousand Year Door. The only thing that I don't like is that they took out the turn based battle system, and the partners are rather lame. Yesterday, I played up to getting the second Pure Heart and putting it in a pedestal, so don't spoil it for me!
But even more MEIN GOTT. So you know how the game is about how Count Bleck is trying to destroy all dimensions of space and time? And how the game is central around you being able to flip from the second to third dimension and back? Well, what's a fractal? It has a dimensionality in between integers. So... I was not surprised, though thoroughly pleased, to see... FRACKTAIL.
Not only is he fucking adorable (I mean, just look at those adorable useless little wings and claws), but he's not even a bad guy, and I feel so bad I had to trounce him for his induced malfunction. But so many pop culture references! He said I AM ERROR! Jelly Donut Hamster! 404! Dammit, this guy is my favorite boss for more than just his name!
As a math nerd, child of the Internet, and longtime Mario fan (Paper Mario is my favorite Mario franchise), I've got to love this game. Has it made it to the top ten list of my favorite games? I don't know. I need to play the full game to say that. But it is certainly in my top twenty currently.
But dammit, Fracktail! I mean,
starmischief told me about Fracktail, but I only remembered about it when I saw the cover, and only remember that I realized he was in a Paper Mario game when I first saw him much later xD
If only he wasn't so damn complicated, or I'd draw him. I wonder if he's in any way related to Hooktail and Bonetail. But how adorable, a robotic Chinese dragon! With a mathematical referencing name! Aaaahhhhh! Easily my favorite Mario boss of all time! Well, he can hardly be considered a boss, given that it was not his fault. Cortez only misunderstood Mario. He's one of my favorites, but the coolest boss is still probably the Chapter 6 train-top boss from Thousand Year Door. Chapter 5 Lava Pirhana Plant level scared the crap out of me when I was a young kid (I had a huge fear of lava until I was 11 or so—I like lava now). It wasn't the boss itself, but what happens afterwards. The rising lava scene. If I played it today, I'd probably still be scared, even though I know that the lava won't reach you afterwards. This new game certainly beats the original, but it still doesn't beat Thousand Year Door.
But yeah, back to studying.

I'm not too into competitive battle :P I play it for the same reason I did when I was 3, and the same reason I loved Pokémon since birth (the shows starter in '97, my birth year, and I had a 5 year old brother (now almost 22))—I want to be a master and catch them all :D
Super paper mario.=/= Sticker star. I do hope you give it a chance, it has 1 area that was notorious for most players leaving the game. but. Oh boy is it Great in the later chapters.
P.s. If you want I'd like to swap friend codes. I have an egg that i could give you that i think will help you play through when you do If your'e intrested
