Happy National Donut Day everyone. Naturally, I wanted to make some donuts, but every recipe I looked for online was how to make them from scratch. Now don't get me wrong, making things from scratch is fine, but I don't keep that many single ingredients in my house at all times, so I thought up a much easier, cheaper method.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
-1 tube of Pillsbury Biscuits country style. (I used a 4 pack of small tubes)
-1 box of your favorite cake mix. (any cake mix will do, I used Betty Crocker yellow cake)
-1 48 FL OZ bottle of vegetable oil.
-1 medium saucepan.
-1 straining spoon.
-frosting. (I used 2 tubes of funfetti vanilla frosting, 1 pink, 1 purple)
-sprinkles.
STEP 1:
Start by pouring the oil half-full into the saucepan. Heat on med-high. While the oil is heating, make the cake batter in a large bowl. Set aside for now when mixture is made.
STEP 2:
Pop open the tube of biscuits. Mold the biscuits into a donut shape by punching a hole in the center. When oil is heated, gently dip the biscuit into the cake batter, then carefully place the biscuit into the oil, don't worry about how it's placed in as the donut will float. When it turns a nice golden brown (only takes about 20 seconds) flip to the other side to give an even coating. Strain the donut out of the oil with the straining spoon, then set on a paper towel covered plate to strain and cool. Repeat the process with the entire tube.
STEP 3:
Pour the frosting into a small bowl. Heat in the microwave for about 25 seconds, then stir with a spoon. When the donuts have completely cooled, dip the donuts face down half way into the frosting turning a bit as you do. Pull out the donut allowing excess frosting to drip off for a second, then place back onto the plate. Add sprinkles. Repeat the process with the rest and enjoy.
