Duo - Torakhan of the ToD (Artwork by Goldenwolf)
The original artwork was done for me by GOLDENWOLF.
I have only added an edited version to the piece.
The image represents the versions of Torakhan at The Temple of Divinity on the Tapestries MUCK--with crocodile spines down his back and tail, and as a plain tiger.
Back at MFF 2006 I was fortunate enough to ask Goldenwolf to do a sketch for me. I paid her the money and it was not finished at the con, so I planned to have it mailed to me. I Emailed her once or twice just to make sure she was still planning on doing it, and she assured me that she was.
Now, being someone who's commissioned a lot of artists at conventions over the years, I understand (first hand as well) that sometimes your muse just has other things to do, and that sometimes those pieces you wait a year or more for can turn out to be great, especially from high-end artists! (My piece from R.K. Post is a fine example!) A few months later I saw and heard that she was no longer taking commissions, but at MFF 2007 she assured me she would get onto it and I was happy she was still interested (I've lost more before on commissions that never panned out, and it'd been a while, so my checkbook wasn't going to die because I'd spent the money and lost it anyways). Then in May someone IM'd me and said "Hey! I just saw your Goldie commission! It looks awesome!" I saw it and was absolutely dumbstruck.
It was far more than I could have ever hoped for and am in awe of it.
(if you would like to see her Deviant Art posting of it, check out: http://goldenwolf.deviantart.com/ar.....akhan-84560059 )
However, by the time I had gotten this... the character had lost his crocodilian parts and was pure tiger. I knew this in November when I talked Goldenwolf at MFF '07, but I didn't want to press my luck by changing things.
I scanned in the 9x12 bristol in two parts at 1200dpi and stitched them together just to get the original scan.
Then I used Photoshop to remove the crocodile scales, add in a leg and modify the tail...
(Fun Fact! Did you know that Photoshop will not create a file larger than 2GB?)
So then I had the two versions of Torakhan and turned them into a wallpaper. I will either be printing this, or the original as a large 24"x36" poster in the near future here at work.
The lesson? Good things come to those who wait. GREAT things come to those who don't press their luck! ;)
