Name: Joshua Landon
Nicknames: Josh, Joshy, Coco Monster
Age: 25
Occupation: Part time construction worker, part time employee at local home improvement store
Relations: Jordan (father), Andrea (mother), Kurt (brother), Marie (niece), Alison (ex-girlfriend)
Story:
Josh is the youngest child of Jordan and Andrea. His older brother Kurt was a big influence on him growing up. When they would go out, Kurt would always bring him home records, telling him this is who he should like. When their parents passed away, the two only had each other. They were left with the family house and a couple acres of land. Josh picked up a job at the local home improvement store and found some odd jobs for construction to help pay the bills.
Josh and Kurt grew up very close, but as the years went on, Kurt distanced himself and ended up getting with a girl who wasn't the best influence on him. She convinced Kurt to move out of the family house to an old apartment a few towns over. Josh ended up feeling betrayed that his brother would stray so far from him, but when Marie was born, he forgot everything and focused on teaching her everything he could. Marie became a big part in his life after his brother finally moved back in. The two were nearly inseparable. While the brotherly bond between Josh and Kurt had been all but snuffed out, Marie helped to bring the two closer together again.
By the time Marie was five, Josh found himself falling in love with a girl he met while working on renovating a house a few miles away. Her name was Alison, and she was what he considered to be the closest thing to heaven he would ever get. He fawned over her, bought her anything and everything she wanted, treated her like she was the queen of the land. The two dated for almost two years. The night he was going to propose to her, he came to her house and knocked on her door. When the door swung open at the knock of his hand, he became increasingly worried. All the lights were off in the house. All except the hallway to the bedroom. Josh listened as closely as he could to see if anyone was in the house. He couldn't hear anything, but cautiously took a step forward. He glanced across the room to see two champagne glasses on the table and an empty bottle between them.
His heart dropped and he hoped that this was all some kind of sick joke between Alison and one of her friends. He picked up his pace and opened the bedroom door. What he found devastated him. Alison had another guy in her bed with her. All Josh could do was stand in the doorway, shocked and heartbroken. He turned and walked away without saying a word. Alison had caught up to him in the living room and grabbed his arm asking him to wait so she could explain. Josh didn't want to hear it and pushed her away just hard enough to lose her balance and fall on the floor. He left without even looking back to see if she was ok.
When he got home, it was very late. Marie had already been put to bed and Kurt was out on his nightly deal. Josh headed straight for the stash of the hardest liquor they kept in the house. He didn't ever drink alone, or hardly ever for that matter. Only on special occasions. After downing an entire bottle, he went to the gun safe and pulled out one of the handguns. He went back to the couch and sat down. He took a few more drinks and held the gun against his head. He started crying when he heard Marie's bedroom door open.
Josh quickly shoved the gun under the couch and wiped away his tears. It was dark, so even if Marie could see, she wouldn't be able to see the tear stains in his fur. "Joshy?" called Marie from the doorway. "Yeah?" responded Josh. Marie walked into the room and sat on the couch with him. She crawled under his arm and laid her head on his chest and went to sleep. It was in that moment that Josh knew he couldn't ever leave Marie, not even for his own broken heart.
Ever since that night, Josh has been very distrusting of anyone getting close to him. He doesn't date anymore. He looks out for his brother and his niece and is loyal to his friends. Occasionally he will slip into depression after he catches himself getting too attached to someone out of fear that history will repeat itself. His only escape is alcohol. He keeps himself busy by finding new projects around the house to work on. Currently he is building a detached garage behind the house and working on a frame for a fishing hut by the lake.
