Physical characteristics
Average Height: Floof dogs, much like many other species, can vary in size and shape. The average height for a Floof dog can range between 5’5” and as tall as 7’5”. The typical height is about 6’2”. Though on an individual basis, these numbers can differ.
Weight: Typically, the species is of a lean body type, although this may not always be the case where a food supply is readily available. Though it is rare, the ability to encounter a thicker Floof Dog (be it from musculature or body fat) is possible. The weight of a Floof Dog also is dependent on the height and gender of the animal. Generally speaking, the average weight tends to fall between 120 – 180 lbs. It is also important to note that both the male and females of the species tend to have the same body type which makes them very androgynous in appearance.
General physiology: Floof dogs are classified as Monsters that carry over canine traits. Their skeletal structure is that of a bipedal creature with a human-esque frame. Much like a human body, they share a very similar spinal structure leading to a seven vertebrae neck that gives their range of head movement roughly the same as the average adult human. One of the defining traits in Floof Dog physiology is their musculature; while minimal in most areas, there is a large concentration of tightly packed muscle in their forearms and calves. These are what to give them the iconic “monster arms” that they have come to be recognized for. The concentration of muscle in these areas are what give the species their ability to exhibit astounding strength and aid in vertical leaps; essential for the species to survive in urban areas.
Eyes: Another characteristic that is unique to this species is their “double iris”. The presence of two separate layers on their irises is yet another iconic aspect to this species physiology that not only has aesthetic value but also provides a bit of insight into how the colors are often very stark in opposition to one another; a common eye variant is blue/yellow. It is theorized that the eyes are designed this way to help process light, as they are primarily nocturnal in nature. The theory suggests that this adaptation was developed as a mechanism to help break down or attract light before it hits the pupil given in its natural habitat and nocturnal tendencies (cities and urban areas), the species often finds itself in situations where the lighting may change rapidly. Another trait these eyes hold is the ability to give the appearance of “glowing” in certain situations of excitement thanks to a filament found in the iris.
Horns: All individuals in the species feature a single horn on the forehead. Both males and females have the horn although its purpose is still unknown as this species relies on its paws for hunting and defense. While many in the species share a similar style of horn (unicorn-like), the style of horn can be as unique as the individual. There are countless styles and variants of Floof Dog horns ranging from a double point style (Kyrin), twisted or irregular styles, or even reminiscent of an antler. The horn on a Floof Dog is typically hallow and much like the eyes, carries a concentration of filaments that cause it to “glow” based on excitement exhibited in the animal.
Fur: The majority of a Floof Dog’s body is covered in a very short, soft pile fur that covers their entire body and tapers off into longer pile at the wrists and ankles. There are concentrations of very thick, long fur on the chest region as well as the tail tip that all connects to a mane that runds down the back and top of the head.
Teeth: Both males and females feature a typical canine jaw set with two sets of oversized canines that project out of the mouth. These large “saberteeth” always follow the same placement; mandible fangs are right in front of the maxillary. In some cases, an individual may be missing some of these due to loss in battle/ect.
Markings and color variants
Floof Dogs are incredibly unique creatures in the sense that very rarely do they look alike. Their coloration and markings are diverse and often the proverbial “thumb print” of the species. Their pelt coloration is broad; some have natural coats while others have vibrant, colorful tones or even a combination of the two. Their coloration is dependent on the type of music they are born from and their lifestyle. The markings and color of a Floof Dog are as unique as the individual!
