Usually this would be the point where I would have some sort of quaint little description blurb thingy that explains what the context of this picture is, but in all truth, I have no easy way to explain this one, therefore I leave it entirely open to interpretation!
As for this actual picture itself, I have to admit, I always love doing these sorts of scenes. Every time I draw just a character portrait, I find that I'm always formulaically following the same steps and producing a similar result each time, but with these complicated scenes, I find myself getting into a mood where I'm much more open to trying new techniques. I find the idea of experimentation is much less frustrating in this sort of environment because its so easy to just try something else. This could very much be a testament to the fact that I need to be more experimental when drawing character portraits, but it could also be attributed to the fact that I really don't like the sketching/lining process in drawing (which is only very briefly done in these sorts of pictures)
Personally, I'm quite happy with the way this turned out, despite a few errors (namely; that's not how hammock physics work lol (the way the fabric bends under weight I mean)). Also notable is that as I was drawing the city in the lower right, I eventually reached a point where I said "ah who cares whatever I do at this point is going to get resized down to the point where you wouldn't notice anymore."
I think my biggest obstacle that I'm facing with these scenes at this point in time is that I'm pretty lacking in regards of knowledge about focal points, making a picture "flow", composition, color theory and the like. Basically what I'm getting at is at this point in time, I'm pretty much just drawing stuff and stuff is going on the screen.
Still, again, very happy with what I have so far! What matters most is that these are so much fun for me to draw. I enjoy it very much C:
