I hope to post more work directly related to Equestria dreamscape some time this week, in the meantime enjoy some random sketches of one of my bunkmates in Ponyville Petina DePony.
Being one of my muses Petina has pointed out to me several times over the last couple months that she's not getting as much screen time as she thinks she deserves. Well I decided to address that.
The two sketches of her wearing the Plot Device baby doll t-shirt came out of a dream I had over a year ago. Rarity had begun exploring the use of silkscreen to create patterns and images on fabric. Ponyville's fashion expert saw great potential for the new techniques. However she was rather surprised when Petina approached her with a job to have the words Plot Device silkscreened onto a black, rather brief, undershirt in white ink. The Element of Generosity had no idea why Petina would want that saying on an undergarment.
Petina explained her interest in the saying as being writing and literature joke, and since she was a writer it was even funnier. Besides characters could be plot devices in stories and according most ponies she was definitely a character. Rarity could not dispute that last claim.

(I'm reminded of an SF comic that mentioned a race of strange inventors called the Plaht. Their devices got used in lots of unexpected ways...)

No it is set in Saddle Arabia, actually she doesn't call it that but all Petina did was file off the serial numbers. It deals with adventures of Princess Blanca the rightful ruler of the kingdom who has been driven into exile by her conniving brother Prince Noir.
Princess Blanca's closest and most trusted companion is an earth pony mare called Violet Dusk. Originally Dusk was a slave purchased by Blanca to act as her personal servant, however as time goes on there grows a passionate love affair between the two of them. Eventually Violet Dusk becomes Blanca's closest confidant and aide in her attempt to reclaim her lost kingdom.

Petina levitates a ledger and pen over and then looks at it for a moment.
"Okay, we're performing next Saturday. Show starts at 9pm, will this just be the show or will you dining there as well? Shiny Cauldron does wonderful mushroom casserole on Saturday's! There is a 2 bit at the door, but if order dinner and a drink it is only 3 bits."

I'm reminded of an episode in the first season of the show Castle where Nathan Fillion's character, a mystery/crime novelist, pulls out a bulletproof vest with "WRITER" emblazoned on it, and now I can only imagine Petina wearing a similar vest with "PLOT DEVICE" written on it. Knowing Petina, she'd probably be wearing said vest and little else, making a "I always wear protection" double entendre or something like that.
