So, a local trombone octet asked me to arrange a beautiful Eric Whitacre piece for them to play. Was both a lot of fun and surprisingly difficult to work on (dear god the voice crossings :P ) but I'm very happy with how it came out. Hopefully I'll have a live recording soon enough, but until then I'm throwing up the midi file for giggles. Now you might be wondering why, if this is arranged for trombones, it sounds like a bunch of cellos. Well the answer, Finale's trombone sounds are pretty gosh darn awful in most circumstances, and this certainly is no exception. The cello's, however, sound REALLY pretty! So yeah, artistic license.

Oooh! October has always been one of my favorite pieces - I was fortunate enough to perform this piece not once, but twice, with a concert band. If you're not happy with Finale, have you considered using Sibelius? It has a much better sound-font than Finale (at least in my experience). But yeah, the arrangement sounds fantastic :)
Well, Sibelius has improved a lot with each version, but Finale has just kept with the same general MIDI. I just like how well Sibelius handles dynamics and tempo changes. But hey - to each his own. If you can come up with good compositions, it doesn't really matter :)
