If I had to presume, this is necessary vent art over someone using that hair style and that's why scissors. But that's just me presuming.

Its a raw deal. On one hand you just wanna do everything you can. And the next you wonder if its worth the energy, and then theirs that "how could someone". Its a pretty sucky place to be but if I can offer some advice? If it isn't hurting how you make a living, the relationship you have with your friends or damaging your reputation to badly try to just breath and manage it.

Unless you mean legit identity theft and not just someone pretending to be you on a porn site. Legit identity theft is truly a pain. I do hope it gets smoothed out if THAT is the case. Regardless, total sympathies.

I wanna be a huge baby about it but I also know realistically there's no way I can 'claim' her design. I can console myself all day with the fact that her design is like, almost four years old and back when I first drew it I had never seen it on another character- but it's not like I could have possibly 'invented it' - I'm sure it could have existed already elsewhere. And I can't keep people from using it on their own characters.

Ugh, I can't tell you how many times I go through this. I have adoptables I've purchased stolen / concept and designs stolen so many times. I try getting prolific characters from artists that have the whole 'YOU STOLE THAT FROM SO AND SO' thing for when it counts for this very reason nowadays.

I've been so tired and angry at seeing folks stealing other people's characters. One does this ALL THE FUCKING TIME but they target the people who hate confrontation and they never get called on their crap. They tried stealing me and a friend's sona as their own and I called them for their crap. Took me over a week for them to take the artwork down of all the rip offs.

The only thing you can do is know that you came up with it first. It was your beautiful design, and no matter what anyone does or says, the design is yours. No one can ever take that away from you. I will admit, this character has inspired me before, but I never acted upon it because, unlike the assholes that run around this site (And dA) I don't just take whatever I want from characters, and I know how much she means to you. Something that specific and prolific shouldn't be ripped off like that and it hurts me knowing you've been targeted with this, too.

You as an artist are an inspiration, just know that - even if it sucks that you inspired someone enough to the point they ripped you off. At least you have people who respect you and your characters that you also inspire. Your character actually helped me really get into the galaxy theme most of my characters have and any custom adoptables that I get.

Yeah, that sucks. Good luck in getting through your funk. I've been trying to get back into doing artsy stuff, but I keep worrying about my stuff not looking right that I end up not bothering.

It is sad, and it isn't fair that people who don't have enough creativity feel the need to steal from someone else. They say that copying someone is the highest compliment, but when it comes to art? Well... it is just a dick move. Sadly there's not much you can do other than pride yourself in knowing you have much, much more talent and unique ideas than a person who has nothing better to do than take another person's idea and make it 'their own'.

Hell, the least they could have done was ASKED. How hard is it to ask, or credit another person as the inspiration? :/

*gives a yankee candle? and some cotton candy?* She really is a very unique character and everyone else wants to be unique too, just sometimes they can't really come up with something really unique. Not saying that they're exempt from blame or retribution. But, she is YOUR character and no one can take her away from you in that sense. I really do love your characters, especially her. I just hope it doesn't make her cut her beautiful hair, even if she does, she'll still be beautiful! <3

I feel you, dear. I may not have had my character stolen before, but I sure have had art stolen before- and it was art for a contest I was participating in!

This was a few years ago and I was barely returning to DeviantART. A friend of mine came to me asking if a certain account was mine because she saw my contest entry for the Red vs Blue season 8 contest on Rooster Teeth on their DA account. I was LIVID, but I went and reported it stolen with proof to the staff, then calmly contacted the artist who posted my art in stating that I've already reported theft and warned them to take it down.

Then unfortunately, a fuck-ton of my friends on Rooster Teeth found out through that one friend about the theft. They decided to go white-knight when the staff already handled taking the artwork down from the person. The person kept bitching about how it was a mistake and trying to do pity posts about it- and it..somewhat shocked me, it turns out their whole gallery was of stolen artwork.

Needless to say..my friends made me feel embarrassed over it, because I never asked for them to go and hound the thief- but in the end, Tumblr staff had been alerted and banned the thief.

Wait..not tumblr, DA.. god dammit, I can't even get my sites right early in the morning.

I've never been (un)fortunate enough to have my work stolen online (They say that art theft is a form of flattery, in that you've become popular enough that people want to steal from you), but I have been rather shocked a time or two to see characters whom look almost identical to my own, just with bigger tits and two fewer arms. I've had someone IRL steal artwork from me and claim that they drew it (When the crackhead had the artistic ability of a kid with cerebral palsy having a seizure), and I couldn't really do much of anything about it, and I never got the art back. It really sucks when someone takes something unique to you and claims it as their own..it's like they've stolen a piece of you. Chin up, though! It's not the end of the world! ^_^

how important and special Axel is to you is a major reason I was crazy nervous drawing my lil gift art thingie..even though I wanted to show you how much enjoyment and pride I take in the pieces you have drawn for me.

sometimes I wish my persona were not such a simple design as I see the combination of a red headed, white pelted feline pretty often(one of the reasons I am so pleased with your ref...my plain lil kitty has all the spunk and personality I could wish for)
