Princess of the Night
Drew this a little while back and showed it to some friends who are Luna fans. For whatever reason I never really distributed the image, but over time it got around, which didn't bother me at all. Recently though I saw a mention of it on Reddit and followed the link to e621. Turned out someone altered the picture to make it an X-rated pin-up (I think you can guess how) with my name still clearly visible. I don't mind people distributing my stuff, I do find it annoying when they alter it, especially when people think *I* made the image that way.
Anyway, here is the original so it is also out there and people don't assume the altered version was the original, or my idea.
P.S. I guess people may ask why it is a big deal if the image was modded by someone to be adult since I draw adult pictures? I guess because other than anthro, I always wanted to keep my pony work at PG-13 or less. I'm not anti-clop, I don't care if other people draw clop art of non-anthro ponies, just a personal decision for my own work that I do not (although some people may classify this image as such; I don't mind drawing suggestive). Really though it is about altering other people's work is wrong (other than fair-use satire, which is fine) whatever the case may be, adult or not.
Eh, whatever, enjoy the picture at least. :P

Nice work. In my research to do a MLP drawing myself, I've found that I've been studying seemingly endless numbers of pony pics for research. (Since I no idea whatsoever about what MLP is about. I've never watched the show.) Of all the pony artists on here, you and one other seen to have captured the essence of what I imagine the show might be if it were upgraded to a graphic novel for the PG-13 and R-rated crowds.
About the unauthorized alteration of your work, I understand completely. I've found a couple of mine altered and uploaded to various chan sites. I never would've believed that someone would even bother with my work, as I'm unknown and not that good. (You know, if you're going to steal work and alter it to look even crappier than it already is, at least have the courtesy to remove the original artist's name from it.)
In any event, I eagerly await more of your pony work. Cheers!

My recommendation is to watch the show. Granted that is a very "brony" answer, but I say that because you say you are researching in regards to the show, that would be the logical place to start, as it would allow you to know the characters and their universe. Now if you feel that would not be to your liking, or take too much time, then I would recommend the MLP Wiki, which covers pretty much everything.
