The head took about an hour. It was based on a default human head that came with the software. You just stretch and pull and mould it to your needs. The horns took forever since I did not have any instructions on how to bend and twist a cone to get the shape I wanted. So figuring that out and texturing it took about 4 hours. I cheated on the ears and cut and pasted them from a model of a Buck that came with Poser. I then modified them to look more like tauntaun ears. So, in total about 8 hours work.

Actually that won't work. The image is layed out so the right head is what the left eye should be seeing and the left head is what the right eye should be seeing. If you look at the image the way you describe, your eyes will be seeing the inverse image and the 3d effect will be backwards (things that are suposed to be close will be pushed further away and vise-versa).
The best way to see the proper effect is to cross your eyes till the two images merge into a 3D center image.

Someone needs to build/get you a RepRap! http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/ItemsMade
Then these can come out into the real world!
(Or a toolhead like this one: http://www.physorg.com/news92328869.html and it can be actually made from chocolate! :)

ZBrush is used in many 3D animation companies in conjunction with Maya. You can download a demo version here: http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/

For the ears. I created a single ZSphere, made it into a unified mesh, then stretched it into a football shape with the scake tools, then pushed in the one side to thin it out, then detailed it. Thinking back I could have used one ZSphere for the ear then useda slightly smaller negative ZSphere which would have turned the first into a cave like shape. This would have been easier to start with than the way I did it. Once I had the one ear completed I made a copy of it and inverted it for the other side. :)
