I always think it's neat how an artist's style evolves as they progress. Even though I don't draw as much as other artists out there, I still see a small evolution in my style from time to time. Lately it seems like my stuff is getting a little more detailed and a little less cartooney.
A little.
My stuff is still cartooney, definitely, but I'd like to be able to move away from that slightly and go for something more realistic.
This pic is something I drew at work. More of an older Bauske. A more mature Bauske. Granted, Bauske, meaning myself, will never fully be mature. I'm a kid at heart and always will be, but I'd like to think that maybe he can grow a bit in appearance.
I'm sure over time he'll change further. For now, I like this edgier look.

I don't know why, but I find this oddly appealing. Reminds me of the hours I'd spend during classes doodling on the old lined paper. Coming outta class with not a single coherent sentence written on the page, ANYWHERE. XD
Awesome look, and great lines on 'em. ;3 Rawr, and all that.

Yeah, I totally feel ya there about the style - myself, I'm similar. I try to go for a sort of a realistically cartoony feel if I can get it. Whether I succeed or not depends on the viewer, but I think it's okay. :3
But more power to ya, man, and good luck on your quest. ^_^

I've watched your art evolve for some time now. From when your site was first up, to here, and i can say honestly, your art has greatly matured! Your drawing skills have greatly improved! You've taken your original style and branched out, using new techniques or inspirations to fuel it.
Your a great guy, i hope you continue to make your art amazing! Plus, this older, serious version of Bauske looks very sharp! I'm impressed!!!

Wow, thanks a lot for that! It's really great to know that someone has been watchin' my stuff ever since my old site first went up (wow I haven't updated that think in SOOOO long x__x). I'm glad you've enjoyed my artwork over the years. I guess sometimes I forget that it's just merely something I do for fun. ;p
I like how the real solid black outline at the back contributes to the shading some.
I can see some movement towards more realistic, mostly in the slightly smaller eyes and the anatomy (although we can only see the upper quarter of his body). He definitely looks older.
I gotta say I agree this is still kinda cartoony, but at the same time I gotta say there's nothing wrong with that. I feel like art can still be realistic, mature, and thoughtful even with a cartoony exterior (Calvin and Hobbes is the example that jumps to mind), and might even have more potential reach for inspiring others by grabbing the child(inside)'s attention in order to convey the message, whether that message is the dialogue, the emotion, the movement, whatever.
I should also mention that my favorite pieces of your art all scream some kind of artistic maturity anyway, mostly in the characters' expressions or their movement. The ideas in those drawings are always clear, regardless of the presence of dialogue/title/other types of language associated with drawing.
I'm not saying you should just keep doing the same thing (or even just same kind of thing) over and over, of course - but don't abandon the skill to do awesome cartoony stuff! Realistic is definitely cool, but, at least for our generation and probably many generations after, cartoons have their own unique and irreplaceable value.
