Haha, yup :b
It's a bit of a tangent, but reminds me of my circle of friends' "rite of passage" for archery. My fiance already knew how to shoot, but got me to shoot without any gear my first time until my right fingers hurt from drawing and I smacked my forearm with the bowstring and gained a new level of appreciation for bracers and archery gloves, haha. So now we bug all our friends (who then also got interested in archery) that they aren't "real archers" until they've stung their forearms with the bowstring at least once XD
... can't really afford to do that with guns so much XD Stinging your forearm is one thing, but getting your thumbs sliced open 'cause the slide hit them or breaking your face or dislocating your shoulder from the recoil 'cause you weren't holding the thing properly is a bit much :b Haha

*winces* OUCH... yes, I have done that with a bow. You wonder why people wear the bracers only until the first time you do that. XD As for the guns thing - meh, too hard to get/use anyway with the tough laws against'em. Not to mention I'd prefer less face-braking during the learning process of things anyway.
Hahaha, well, okay. Provided you aren't starting off with a high-caliber rifle or desert eagle or something, recoil isn't THAT dangerous, I don't think. Especially not if you tell the person how to hold things properly.
... another tangent. I self-taught myself a little bit of poi a few years back (y'know, the fire/glow-spinning thing), and THAT can involve a lot of hitting-self-in-face. There is an alternative which, as a female, I don't mind, but it's hitting yourself in the face while you learn, or hitting yourself in the crotch :b

*chuckles* Well, if I ever have to learn how to use guns right, I'll enlist my brother's help - he lives in Texas, and between him and his wife... hoooo boy, do they have a lot of guns.
*snickers* Yeah, have friends big time into Poi. For me, I learned how to use Nunchaku when I was a teen... and like Poi, that does involve a lot of painful self-correction. But... as such, you either improve real quick, or realize they're not the weapon (or dance accessory) of choice for you. XD Also... as a guy, they were definitely painful lessons.

No, I haven't, although http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13501192/ this guy was vaguely inspired by them. They're really beautiful, though, would enjoy the chance to draw/paint one, I think :)
