Rather then work himself, Ian makes his living as a landlord.
The majority of his income is from a vast, fully functioning model city he keeps in his house. Everything from electricity to plumbing is implemented, along with it's own micro-controlled import/export system.
It's one of the safest, cleanest, most pleasant places for the height-challenged to live. Primarily because, as we see here, the crow himself personally tends to those who cannot make a passing grade.
