Common throughout Europe and Asia, the Long-Tailed Tit is an insectivore of woodlands where good shrub layers can be found. During the breeding season, if a pair fails to produce offspring, they will often become “helpers” to relatives nests for new hatchlings, aiding the parents in raising them.
This is thought to help with not only the survivability of those being helped, but to teach the helper how to successfully raise young chicks.
