Meet Clyde the Gnoll! This suit is a collaboration between myself and
HuskyPaws over the course of the last couple of months. I did the head design while he did the body.
You might wonder why I'm putting this with my 3D printed work - well, let me tell you! The head under-structure is not foam or resin but a 3D-printed nylon form. The jaw hinge and jawset are all integrated into the print, providing a durable, lightweight, and flexible base to paint and attach fur to. The custom "follow-me" resin eye design is also derived from a 3D print.
Other features include expanded polyurethane foam ears and tongue to reduce weight, an integrated fan for cooling, and UV LEDs to light up the fluorescent eyes. This head weighs only 2 lbs 6 oz, including the 4-AAA battery pack, with the majority of the weight distributed over the head rather than just the face.
Overall it was a very exciting project, and I'm glad to have had the privilege! Stay tuned on HuskyPaws' page: see what another designer can do with my 3D printed hyena blank!
