This is an old old picture of me and Firecracker. He was the king of the herd at the barn his whole life. Even when he was a retired old man the other horses never messed with him. He'd generally laze and take it easy in the pasture, but woe betide the horse who started stirring up trouble. They'd get put back in their place by the old fella.

'Cracker could be a stubborn old guy, but he was a great horse to learn to ride upon. He was usually surrounded by a few mares. Even more in the springtime.
