You grab it by the tail first, either breaking it off entirely or just immobilizing it so you can grab the thing by the upper area of the carapace and deal with the pinchers and legs at your leisure. At least, that's how I do it. Hadn't really considered the scorpion's point of view. Do understand the threat/non-threat of the tail versus pinchers.
This suggests one that uses it's venom to incapacitate it's prey and uses the claws to deliver the killing blow - you'd be well advised to use an implement - longish knife or a stick or similar - to completely remove the tail on a one that's dangerously venomous before killing it.
Fehnniks don't need no steenking ultraviolet! They have built-in SONAR to locate their prey. I had an Australian Cattle Dog and an Australian Kelpie who used their big 'racket-funnels' to stalk bugs in the front yard. It was a riot to watch these two girls standing stock still, cocking their heads to and fro and swiveling those big ears. They were seldom disappointed hunters. We didn't have a mole problem inside their yard, either. The tunnel would cross under their fence, and stop with a little pit, like an exclamation point!
