Long story short: a story spanning eight generations each generation's hero featuring "Jo" in there last and or first names, hence JoJo. In the third generation, psychic abilities called were introduced and have ever been an integral part of the series. At first stands were named after the 22 cards in the Major Arcana of Tarot Cards, nine after Ancient Egyptian Gods and finally all others were named after bands, albums and songs in western culture (due to the nature of copyright laws, this makes it tricky for JJBA to have an American audience)
