Resident Evil 5: Chicken
The game itself never really adequately explains where it takes place. Is this a country? A region? Somewhere real? Somewhere fictitious? The Democratic Republic of Unspecified? All you ever get is "Africa", and even in the later parts of the game you find notes saying "I arrived yesterday in Africa" and "Umbrella established a facility in Africa". It's a big continent, guys.

Yeah, someone told me Barry was originally supposed to be the partner character, but he was replaced with a local so the game would look slightly less bad. I don't necessarily mind that, but Sheva never really justifies her presence in the narrative. Her entire backstory is "Big Pharma killed my parents" and her entire reason to tag along is "we're partners", and I assume now she's slipped into the formless aether that all Resident Evil bit characters get lost in when the canon marches on without them. She can hang out there with that Carlos guy whose awful fake accent disappeared after three lines.
Honestly I don't think there was supposed to be partner character to begin with.
If you look at all the controversary videos that showed the gameplay, Chris is alone in all of them. That's why the partner AI is so horrible and feels so tacky, because it literally was slapped on just as response to the controversary.

They must have patched the AI at some point; I found it pretty competent aside from a few quirks. I'd be interested to know just how much that controversy influenced the final design, though. It certainly didn't stop them from making you fight literal spear-chuckers in the midgame.
Well no, not a literal hole, but a black scorch mark, and it ruined the game. It was when it first came out, and was a gift from my little sister for my birthday, so you can imagine how upset I was. Plus I had just unlocked the hand cannon. I plan on buying it again, since 360 games are dirt cheap now.
