I've always thought super-speed was a pretty lame super power... but after seeing the new X-Men movie recently, I'm gonna have to make a big fat exception for Evan Peters as Quicksilver :D I haven't been so enthralled with a movie character since Jack Sparrow first sailed onto the screen. And since I'm uncomfortably aware how badly I need to practice drawing humans once in a while, this seemed like an excellent opportunity to do so :3
Quicksilver is of course copyright to Marvel (though really he looks quite different in this movie to how he traditionally looked - and I cannot approve more! XD He was always kinda boring before).

My thoughts exactly! I mean, Wolverine is essentially the main badass character of these movies...but Quicksilver's scene literally killed every other scene like ever seen in any X-Men movie. His facial expressions are too good to be topped. What made "speed" beat any other superpower? Because He was using it freely! It was His own choice to abuse His powers, and do silly things with it and at the same time, He was 100% effective! It made Quicksilver silly, effective, and most importantly...FREE! His powers were used at maximum efficiency...something that we have never seen from any other super-guy/gal! He has stolen the show! At least it was 100% entertaining and it delivered maximum satisfaction. He was done, as Quicksilver should be! I wish the rest of the mutants were made with as much care and respect, as Quicksilver!
I had a question ever since, and I was lazy to research: Quicksilver's "speed power" works all the time (like Rouge's absortion powers) or He can neglect it's usage, and be "normal speed" from time to time? My guess is, that He can slow down to normal speed, since He won't understand any slow-mo sounds/speech, and enjoy music for that mater...If His speed power works all the time, then how does He pick up sounds???? His obviously faster, then the sound waves...If His powers are on all the time, then He is cursed. My guess is, that He can control His powers...100% in this movie, which is totally okay , and awesome!
Nice homage art!

Pushing bullets aside in the movie means...bullets are faster, then the sound they make. He's effectively deaf, when using such speed.
Yet, I saw scenes in X-Men cartoons, when Quicksilver stopped running because somebody yelled at him to stop and wait. (Scarlet Witch or Magneto, I think). So I am not sure How His super-speed works. But it works so well in this movie! And that smile...show stopper!

Oh! And I have found one 4th wall breaking error, just before the mind-travel: So the one person's mind will be heavily damaged, if it is sent that far back in the past. Both transmitter's and receiver's brain cells will be damaged. Then Wolverine steps in and says His line of " But what if the brain heals faster, then it's cells dying?"
THAT LINE!!!!
Wolverine is the perfect candidate, to this "mind-adventure", right? Except the fact, that in all the Marvel Universe Wolverine is the MOST WELL KNOWN PERSON WITH HEAVY MEMORY LOSS!!! Wolverine! You are the perfect example of a brain damaged mutant. Your brain might be healthy, but the memory part is not your "best side"! I know, that it won't effect the movie's awesomeness, but still, it came to me instantly: Let's send back the mutant, who obviously has something wrong with His head! It made me chuckle for a minute long or two!
But then I had to explain to my boyfriend, who Blink is... D:

And my boyfriend was the one, who showed me the "Wolverine and the X-Men" animated series. Blink were in Genosha, porting mutants left and right as Magneto ordered, and in the grim future She was still alive doing the same thing. The movie was so good at this point, that I needed to cut it short: She's a mutant who ports other mutants, and is working for Magneto. I covered Her bluntly. Her ability of portal creation did look awesome. Would watch a Nightcrawler vs Blink match for sure!
Blink was the team leader for much of the Exiles comic book series. Gets to do varied adventures popping through assorted universes solving large problems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exiles.....rvel_Comics%29
It's completed now, so limited in scope!

Actually his super speed does work all the time. In the comics, it is explained in one arc as "every facet of Pietro working faster" - thoughts, metabolism, healing, speed. He learned how to force himself to speak and act in what IS essentially slow motion to him. Like watching and experiencing EVERYTHING in a constant slo-mo playback. Cool, huh?
He does! A lot, actually. He's done things that range from hilarious to downright devious out of boredom!
There's one particular arc where he loses his powers and it is just so humbling to him to have to live at NORMAL speed. You see him just literally not knowing how to function as a person because he feels like his brain itself is slow; like it is running on molasses. Just a trip to get food - which he never had to think about before, but well too much eating makes people who DON'T need 10k calories a day gain a few pounds REAL fast - made him feel like he didn't even know who he was anymore because one of the things that defined him as a person - his speed - was gone.
But, I'm going on a bit of a tirade. I haven't actually seen the new flick yet, but I have to say I'm pretty hesitant as to whether or not I'll like Quicksilver at all because I AM such a big rabid comic-Pietro fanboy... and they already really... really... changed a lot of the other characters a little too much for my liking... Plus, Pietro doesn't even have white hair. I mean. Really. That's one of his defining physical traits! He's Magneto's son, after all.

Quicksilver's hair is plain ol' white with weird bang things that he always seems to have even though they're totally strange [ http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_upF4Etvqv.....uicksilver.gif ], but his costume has changed a few times. His most memorable ones are probably this one [ http://news.doddleme.com/wp-content.....nbco1_1280.jpg ] and this one [ http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/_.....rth-616%29.PNG ].
That is a HELL of a 'hawk. Colour me impressed!
I was aiming for a turquoise (similar to this http://2.media.haircrazy.info/photo....._w500_h500.JPG ) but ended up with more along the lines of this ( http://www.haircolorsideas.com/wp-c.....-blue-hair.jpg )... So I'm in the process of fixing it.
Maybe it is just one of those 'essentially Pietro' things about his character - sort of like Pryo and his Sydney accent (in comic anyhow) or Gambit's nearly-always there side-mouth smile.

Ahh. Personally, I'd be going for the second ref's color, with maybe the first one's sky blue as the tips ;3 I think that'd look pretty bitchin :D
As for Gambit, as a slick, charismatic dude such as himself, I think he always would need to be smirkin, trying to get it to get him out of trouble :p I always thought Gambit, personality wise, was like Han Solo with bombs XD

I can't help but like him because in the film he's not an ass (though he kinda seems to want to seem like one) he's just this really smart kid with a lot of energy. I mean he's the most 'normal' mutant in the whole series. He just seems to be having fun with it. Sure he seems a bit cynical but overall he's kinda how I imagine I would be if I had similar powers. I like him a lot.
This "slow-mo playback" theory has some serious holes in it, but it's a comic character, so I can easily accept it!
One time, Spiderman was swinging above the rooftop of the Empire State Building to stop some baddies, and His web was shot above His head. Fans asked Stan Lee "Where was Spiderman's web shot at? What is above the Empire State Building???" S.L. admitted, that was a graphical error, as obviously nothing is taller then the Empire State Building. He gave a silly answer "A helicopter flew there for Spidey to shot His web at..." He also admitted, that this answer was silly, but "Hey! He must know better! His ideas are solid facts!"...

That's something that I like about Marvel. A lot of the time they'll just be like "yeah it wasn't right" and play it off. :D
Nothing's perfect, and a lot of mutant powers have a LOT of holes in them (like the fact that Magneto's power would be weirdly over-reaching because MAGNETISM IS EVERYWHERE for starters), but it is all in good fun. Super speed is very much not the weirdest mutant ability, at least! There are stranger ones that actually... could... happen. For example: Forearm. Spoiler; Forearm... has long forearms. That's it.

I Have to agree, I was never impressed with the Flash as a child, and Quicksilver to me was "Flash wanna be". Granted I learned to like the character a little more as I read a comic that happened to have him in it along side a favorite Marvel char. But the movie TOTALLY sold me on the guy and his portrayal.
Honestly, as far as looks go, I think they got one of the worst actors possible. I don't know how well he performs as the character, since I am quite close to refusing to see the movie (because like any good Marvel nerd, I have issues with the Canon being completely skewed from the original story, regardless of whether they consider it a whole different Canon)... but I digress.
Beautiful art, nonetheless! Frankly, I've been looking to cosplay Quicksilver as soon as I've started testosterone and my facial shape becomes a bit more long-and-skinny, and am about to have the same haircut, and am similarly enthralled with the character.

Heh, that's what a lot of X-Men fans said about him before seeing the movie X3 I didn't grow up with the comics, but I've been delving into them lately and I can see why old-school fans would be angry with the movies for diverging so much - I get the same way whenever I see movies based on books I love, such as Harry Potter and LOTR (I refused ever to go see the Golden Compass because I just know they would have butchered it, LOL). Quicksilver in this movie is quite utterly unlike the character in the comics, but he's got so much charisma that it's hard not to love him as a whole new character, hehe. But as I said, that's just from someone who is new to the original X-Men stories.
Yeah, I really hated the Harry Potter movies--they took the books, chewed them up, and spit on them. I haven't read the LOTR books all the way through (I mean, there's only so much one can take of songs about flowers...), but I do get that there was a great deal of content either altered or omitted entirely. Regardless, I actually did like how those were put together--but perhaps it was Christopher Lee's guidance to the directors about how they weren't making the death and injury real enough that saved it.
Now see, you've just made me feel good about my decision not to see it--thank you. I was hoping to be able to justify that it would just be some piece-of-shit-canon thrown together by someone who didn't actually understand the character.
At any rate... my hair is blue right now, but I'm going to go white before I do the cosplay--I already trained it to sweep backwards and it's long enough to make into that swoop. I'll shave the sides once it's a little longer, and get it styled. XD I will be a 'Tro.
