I'm a big fan of Tennyson, and also Kipling (pattern emerges of dead white British guys who've fallen out of fashion a bit). Stevie Smith is quite strange, but brilliant (The Galloping Cat is one of my favourite poems).
I should read more poetry, especially now i'm starting to write it. Any recommendations?

I've not read much Kipling...I should. I did like what I've read, though. Tennyson's work isn't what I would call "perfect" but he was undoubtedly a master poet. You could certainly choose worse to admire, regardless of how in fashion his work may be.
I've not read "The Galloping Cat" but I shall do so. (My personal favorite is Silverweed's untitled poem from Watership Down. I cried when I first read it, both because it's sad and also out of humiliation, realizing how paltry my skills were.)
Recommendations? Let's see... Plath, Dickinson, Pope...Keats...Frost...Dr. Seuss...Byron... (Get a snack before reading Byron, he tends to go on. XP ) Bill Rogers (Havoc), locally. He has a solid skill set.
