I've been wanting to do one of these ever since I first learned the technique. I use Photoshop CS2, but some older versions should be able to do this too.

I've done stuff like that before with Paintshop ^^ I've done the same except I added some star airbrush effects for extra glitter, but what you've done is well in-depth, like. Thank you!

Yes, Paint Shop Pro does make some things easier. I actually used to save after the crystallize step and open it in PSP to finish because I couldn't for the life of me figure out Photoshop's masking system!

Yeah, I've used Photoshop in uni and it's been clunky, difficult and un-user friendly despite what some people have said to me. I don't understand. Maybe it's because I brought myself up on PSP instead of Adobe =P

There's probably a filter like Crystalize for Gimp, even if you have to get it as a plugin. And their handling of masking is actually a lot better than Photoshop's; they let you convert a layer's opacity levels directly into a mask.
