As is usually the case with lightning photography, this was quite the pleasing accident. The lightning was striking about quite wildly, yet few and far between for this particular storm, so I didn't think I'd really catch anything decent this time around.
But I got lucky. A flash that left me temporarily blinded in one eye lit up the sky, and this was on the camera's preview screen.
No, the lightning didn't hit the tree, it struck a spot far behind it, but the placement was just SO perfect.
This was taken in the direction of my backyard, which is basically this private, void-like space between the rear ends of two rows of buildings, with a huge, dead tree right smack in the center in it.
