world war part one.... Then a 18 year break so a new generation of people.could be raised to replace all the soldiers that were killed. Right into world war part two.
My family was lucky. None of my relatives were killed in either war. despite my great uncle who was a cavelryman in the allied expeditionary force to russia, and didnt make it home until 1920 or so. And another uncle who was part of the lancaster bomber crews who made the dambusters raids.
my grandfather was a skilled carpenter, so he spent all of ww1 building planes. My other grandfather was in the us army all through the 1920s and 30s, retiring shortly before pearl harbor was attacked the first time. When the recall orders went out, he had a exempt job in the mines, so he didnt go back into the army.
my dad was over in Korea for the 'police action'. I was in for desert sheild/ storm.
The folks whom I nominate for the balls of brass award are the french and belgian guys who are slowly cleaning up the ww1 & 2 battlefields of all the unexploded ordinance. especially all the unexploded gas shells that have been slowly rusting away underground. Scary stuff.
