I always have turned to my imaginary friends to help me through life. They are those fantasies filled with drama and love and affection by those who save me from myself.
This is just a doodle of a scene you might see in any of my daydreams and fantasies in which a dragon befriends me .. cares for and about me.. as I do for them.
Not my best art, but I've not been in the most artistic of moods lately. I hope to fix the problems with this sometime, clean it up and colorize.
.... annnd of course would be nice to do some tf artwork as well .. *smirk*

This is a touching piece, because I can relate to you with the creation of an imaginary friend of sorts in my younger years. I never had any particular hardships in my childhood, my family was stable all throughout up until the devastation of my parents getting divorced and ripping the family apart. I'm over it now.
But for a period of time, even before I became or knew what furry or anthropomorphics were, my imagination wandered towards dragons. Driving up a piece of road into the neighboring town to the north there was always an eternal pile of dirt across the railroad tracks that paralleled the highway, and it always had a chunk taken out of it as the dirt was used for something.
So, in my imagination, my parents would slow down the car, and I'd open the window and "let my dragon out" so that it could fly to this dirt pile and eat some dirt. Because a chomp that large out of a dirt pile only could've been created by a dragon, right?
My imaginary dragon never served any more purpose than this. I was never an artistic type until I was in the furry fandom for a number of years, and the truth is that this childhood memory all but faded until I glanced across your submission on the FA front page, and the story behind it and the emotion it conveys carry a tremendous weight that just grabbed my attention.
I don't know if I should try and draw this dragon that lived in my imagination, there was never any clear form or shape of it, it was "just a dragon". But maybe now that I've thought of this again I could give it a try some time.

Thank you for sharing this part of your life. It's cool to see how dragons play or have played a part in other peoples lives, and its cool to have read how one shared a part in yours.
And, drawing can bring forth many feelings and revive memories... i would love to see your drawing should you choose to share.

Neglected to respond to this, but if you were curious and wondering what type of things I do attempt to draw, my work is on SoFurry.

I don't really draw tame stuff however, so you may or may not like it, but comment and appreciation makes my day if you find something that strikes your interest.

I used the term "daydream" as a catch all for basically exactly what you describe... nearly every night for 30+ years... i fantasize about stories that involve me somehow and characters like my friend dragon above... in some tale of drama that ultimately, usually, results in me becoming a dragon as well. *smile*
But these fantasies are a part of me and something that gets me through the day....
