Always been curious about the character designs for this show. In the promo reel, Ray still looks pretty much the same, but Venkman is decidedly different.

Guessing you guys had to walk a line between making the characters recognizable, yet not close enough to the movie actors to incur rights payments over the likenesses.

Yes they strictly told us to not make the characters look like the actors. They never said why. I always thought the guys didn't want to be associated with a cartoon show, but your reason is probably closer to the truth.

I remember reading somewhere that it was indeed about not wanting to pay actors rights fees. But it works out. Besides, Bill Murray sorta gets on my nerves. :P

And really, it makes more sense. Actors never look exactly like the "real-life" character they're playing. If you assume the show is based on the "real-life" characters portrayed by the actors in the movie, those characters should look different from the movie actors.

Babs has told me about you and mentioned I better stop in and drop a line :) I've a MASSIVE fan of the RGB and have loved them since the original show, so to know that you had such a huge hand in it is fantasmic. Thank YOU for giving me such a huge part of my childhood, and thank Babs for letting us meet!

Hey, Gabbi. First I want to mention that your artwork here is pretty sweet so while I'm here cus of Llili & ghostbusters it's not just about that. Second...wow. Dunno if you get this much but your work was a HUGE influence on me growing up. I got into art because of the cartoons I used to watch as a kid, and TRG was (and is) my all time favorite.

I loved the fact that the show took on its own life outside of the movies, and as much as I loved GB and the sequel the characters on the show will always be 'my' Ghostbuters. Thank you SO much for being part of a show that helped shine a light onto an otherwise painful childhood. I am so very grateful to you for all the laughter you helped provide.

I hope life is being kind, and that love is your guide & serendipity your constant companion.

Great to see this, Gabbi! I'm another RGB fan. I've been told that you based Peter's design on Bryan Ferry. I'd love to hear that story!

I designed Peter and gave him his final look, but one of the storyboard artists, Kevin, was a big fan of new wave music and he really liked Roxy Music. So when he started drawing Peter for the storyboards, he tweaked his hair and build a little more and made him look more like Bryan Ferry.

Honestly, I loved all the RGB's extrapolated designs, but I was always especially fond of Egon's design. The 'whirled' pompadour was a unique and unexpected twist for a scientist character. Extremely memorable!

I drew a spring on his head and the show's director thought it was funny and let me keep it!
