Thing's are going pretty well for me. Steam sell chunked my wallet a bit but my game times always pretty short. Been needing to get more commissions so I can eat during college next year. As far as studying goes I like to do a lot of studies on Darren Bartley's work lately http://www.artstation.com/artist/fightpunch . Loving his style and the way he does everything. I hope to get that good someday soon! I've learned a good deal on how to think about drawing tech from Scott Robertson's youtube.
I've only worked with Zbrush for 3D. Its a pretty nice tool and very helpful when I want to really flesh out a design in my head.
Programming must be difficult though, Making a game? Sounds ambitious.. Reading tutorials are great for learning new things so good on you for getting all those books out of the way. I personally know nothing about programming. Never was good with numbers.

his work is some of my favorite tech-wise. I've always been interested in drawing tech stuff but never really sat down and tried to learn so these past few months I've been doing secret studies. Hopefully soon I can show some fruits of my labor. But tech feels like a pretty different beast to natural stuff, even though everything is just different shapes. My next classes at the AAU(college) will be going rather in depth of perspective so I'm looking forward to that!
Yeah, if Zbrush wasn't around i'd honestly not be interested in 3D at all unless I was going to make vehicles. 3D's got another chance to live in our hearts!
I've also been in a couple of projects where thing's have just not gone well. They were all phone games hilariously enough! I think your right about that being better off with just learning the programming yourself! If you can do it and your willing to learn then why not right!? Thankfully I have some friends who I trust a lot to work on a project, its been a few years and things surprisingly haven't gone to shit. But it seems to be one of those life project things so the leader won't be done planning things for quite a long time. But no skin off my bones. I hope to be good enough to work for any game dev really! Getting to work for Ubisoft and Blizzard would be an honor, even if there DRM policies are.. not great. Got a long ways to go before I get there though.
Collaboration is really fun when it works out! Sure, I'd be up for collaborating someday, If you ever wanted to hit me up as well then via notes or Skype is the best way to contact me! Although since my only decent skill is art, I may not be too useful considering your quite the artist yourself already! I never disappear from projects but I've had some times where I'll submit my resignation because it feels like a dying dream.

I only prefer to show work that I've really put my soul into. That way when its critiqued then I'm far more obligated to get involved in the conversation and really pay attention to what the other person has to say on what could be better. So I may not show my studies so quickly. Of course none of my studies are really full fledged or completed works anyways. Just techniques I try out.
I have a few good resources for tech. I mentioned before that Scott Robertson's YouTube is amazing for it. hmm I tend to study a lot from looking at what other, more talented people tend to do. So as far as straight tutorials.. don't have much of those but I can link artists that I tend to study from. I'll link there artstations cause its convenient

Those are the usually people I look to for inspirations involving tech of some kind but there's a far bit more that I'll glance at on occasion. Darren Bartley been has been my favorite but Lukas and Ian Mcque are up there as well. Dan Luvisi designs for LMS are great as well.
Yeah, it definitely helps to have a second opinion from someone who knows what there talking about! I only have a few friends that are like that, they also happen to be the ones working on the only project Ive seen actual development in. I could probably be useful for an opinion but I;m not sure about much else.
I love the idea of working with a big studio, working side by side with a bunch of other people and giving idea's to a director rather than being one. I'm definitely liking that(I'm not much of a leader role). Even if I have to start of as a texture artist then I'm totally ok with that! being a cog is my way, as sad as that sounds! But working for an indie company/with friends would definitely be nice. Maybe interning with Supergiant games in SF would be a cool thing to try and do.
