I had some computer troubles today, too.
There was a thing sitting on my desktop wanting me to verify Windows to ensure I had Genuine Microsoft Products. I figured it was malware and did a battery of scans, system restores, you name it. Turns out it was actually a thing from Microsoft! I had to go into safe mode and pull it out of my registry like a bad tooth.
