cause I love money and want it! but seriously this is a joke. I see so many people doing YCH and the starting bid is like 100$ at start, this is getting ridiculous and people need to stop it. not everybody has money to throw around

I have to disagree, some people put a lot of effort into their work, and do a WONDERFUL job. The only person who can determine what their art is worth, is the artist. Sometimes, it is pretty ridiculous, but that's their business.... And yeah, money is tight right now, and some people don't have money to burn, but some do, and that -again- is their business.
PWYW, Pay What You Want, ok that alone is deceptive. Every artist I've seen that done that doesn't follow what that should mean. When they say PWYW what they mean is, give me money and I'll decide how much work I'll put in for you. When your pwyw has a list of what you get for paying, you're not doing pwyw anymore, you're doing commissions.
This makes me laugh. I can't stand adoptable recolours.
But seriously. Tattoo artists work for 150 an hour. Just for linework on paper which can be well over $2k to start. Not even in the skin yet. I know painters working for 300 an hour. And these are all no name nobodies. :3 You wouldn't hear about them on the news.
Furries get it breezy <3

it was then it seemed more like people attacking other people for their beliefs in the fandom, idc if yall debate about the art and prices or ych or adoptables but seemed to me some were getting butthurt over it and started to get out of control, like I said the main subject of the picture was that a lot fur artist SB on ych was way more high then it should, as for prices on art if you charge someone 80$ on full shaded one character and add lets say 30$ per added character you get total of 110$, right? so lets add this correct you added total of 3 characters you would except to pay 140$ then lets say added background-25$ , then if it was wings 10, then specialty complexity(clothes or jewelry etc) it'll be 15$ so add this all up..3 character background pic with wing fursona and one had a completed suit so the total is 190$ so you would expect t pay that amount then you see a journal saying "i'll do it all for 300$) where the hell did the 110$ come from? the artist we know we were talking about I estimated the pricing (unless he changed it) actually overpriced the commission so he actually paying, the full colored picture is 135 Euros (183 U.S$) plus 80$ euros (108$) so add another 108$ the total is around 400$U.S . he charging people an extra 100 or so dollars, for what? where did the extra 100$ comes from it's nothing extra just the fact he charging more (maybe it's for a quickie?) also then the artist as you wait for your picture for months throws a YCH in the middle so you have to wait longer, honestly to me it's bad business, but in the fandom they don't care they getting overpriced as long they buy the name and say "yyyeeaaa I got a pic from THAT artist) makes me kinda sick that furs rather pay more for something that shouldn't be paid more just for the name along...like you rather buy Kellogg's cereal then the store brand. sorry for deleting the comments but I felt like the debate became more of a attack on each other.
Hey hey no worries, nah none of us were attacking so much and enjoying a heated debate. It's defiantly a passionate subject but i was more fascinated with what was had to be said.
I'm a scholar myself, I went to school for several years in art, and the biggest part of it was how to run in the industry, how to judge your prices, how to be a freelance arts. it was all business related of course since that's the whole point of schooling. some of it's refining your skills as an artist, but for the most part its all about the business. So I feel i have a fairly good understanding about how it works.
Also this sort of falls into the subject of how upset people get about what Veterinarians charge. That schooling costs a fortune, that equipment costs a fortune. (yeah we artists have to pay a lot for our equipment too, digital or traditional, computers that can run our art programs smoothly with the best screen quality cost a great deal, keeping on repairs so the machine doesn't break, having the money to replace the machine if it breaks or else be out of work. Then what about the programs. yeah lots of artists pirate but the ones that do it legit? that's $600-800 for a program. everything gets expensive. and most the time i can't even keep up with it) The government doesn't pay them like they pay the hospitals. there's no insurance or anything. so they have to pay for all that stuff out of pocket. So the cost of having your pet even just checked up costs a great deal.
I just get really upset when people just get so upset about it. no not everyone has money. most of us don't really. I'm the same, one of these broke people that see these YCH going for crazy amounts, I wish my art would sell for that, but i don't get mad at the artists for doing it because people valued their art at that and they are just charging what they've been valued at. if people didn't want to pay it, if they didn't think it was worth it, then they wouldn't pay it. I really can't fault them for doing that. Only keep working hard to refine my own skills and try and show i can be good with my craft to make a business out of it and maybe eventually get noticed myself that people may value my art more and I don't have to burn myself out overworking for pennies just trying to get by. I spend a lot of months broke because when I burn out, my art turns to shit, I can't draw period. my wrist kills me and my lines and anatomy fails. I can't tell people enough how difficult and infuriating it is, how i wish i could just keep working and crank out like a machine. but i can't... and its like this for a great deal of artists.
but I'm pretty sure no one wants bad art from these artists either. Right? Often times that's what ends up happening. I've been watching a few who have lists that are 50+ people long that they are cranking out and it looks terrible from their old work and people complain and get disappointed. What do they expect when an artist is busting out hours and hours of repetitive work for very little pay?
sorry maybe i am just really opinionated. I don't mean to just blow this thing up. I'm just one of those guys that likes to speak up over things like this since i've struggled with it first hand for years. I can't be mad, I get discouraged sometimes seeing these artists making it big while I struggle. But the most i can do is keep working keep trying, and hopefully i'll get there too so i can stop laying in bed crying because i'm living off pennys at the end of every month, and can't get any work done.
