Well guys and dolls, I just got back with my friends after seeing Transformers: Age of Extinction. And lemme tell you people something... I haven't had that much fun watching A Transformers movie since the 1st one back in 2007. Much as I saw I enjoy Dark of the Moon, but I liked this one better, as I predicted and hope I could.
I've one again painted a target on the back of my head. You may start bitching at me, saying I'm not a "TRUE FAN" of the series, stop watching me and start leaving nasty comments saying I'm a Bay-lover, you don't care about movies, you suck, yadda yadda yadda. People I've been through all that before on YouTube, DeviantArt, even here on FurAffinity. throw whatever you want at me, it ain't gonna change a damn thing.
Yes, it is a long movie, but I don't mind long movies as long as they ain't boring. And people, I was not bored ONCE during all this. This was less boring that the last two. I know so many fans and critics have made up their reviews saying it's horrible, it's long, it's boring.
Guys, I've had a major epiphany this morning. Don't let critics' words dictate you wanting to read or see something. Granted they do give good opinions about why something's bad, and I respect them for that, and I know that a few of you check out Nostalgia Critic, Spoony and Linkara who are gauranteed to rip thhe movie a new one. Keep in mind though, that some of these reviewers have given the crappiest movies praise. Iron-man 3 and The Dark Knight... I hated them, yet people praise the hell out of it. Sorry if you're fans of those movies. 'Crash' is one of my most hated movies and is till can't believe this movie won awards. After seeing it, it made me not have a doubt that certain critics are getting paid off to give certain movies good reviews.
But that's just me, if you don't believe that. Cool. Movies aren't' for EVERYONE. I DO get that, guys, believe me, I do. But movies aren't perfect. Much as I loved the Avengers movie, it's not perfect, they're were minor things, but that didn't stop me from loving the movie. I get a thrill from watching Superhero films cuz that's been my thing since childhood. That's the reason why I can't take fanboys' or critics' reviews of certain movies anymore, because they have a mindset that they expect a deep story filled with truth and you can learn something from that. But, there's nothing wrong with movies like that, too. Much as I action, I wanna tell a story in it, it maybe cliched and unoriginal. But come one guys, what's original these days?
But even mindless action can have a story in it. Some are better than others, I won't lie. Much as I enjoy Dark of the Moon, yes, the story is flawed. I'm not blind to that, and I saw it last night, but I felt it was better than Revenge of the Fallen. And as I've said before, I'll take Revenge of the Fallen over Prometheus any day of the week.
Maybe with me the Transformer films are a guilty pleasure. Everyone's got them, and I won't judge them for that. If they like something, who am I to leave an email someone they're an idiot for like this while you don't? I don't neither should people who surf the net. Sorry if I sound preachy.
Yeah, I grew up with Transformers as a kid, but I NEVER found it's story or it's concept THAT great to begin with. That's why I don't harp on these movies. It's a 30+ year old concept of 2 factions of giant robot races duking it out with each other. They take different shapes, hence the slogan they've had since '84 'robots in disguise'. But that concept constantly conflicted with itself int he show, and there was never any real story in the episodes, it was a basic plot of that episode, and Autobots win. That's why the show never grabbed me fully as a kid like it did with so many others, and it's main intend was to sell toys. Nothing wrong with that, I still watched it cuz I did think it was cool, nothing really awesome like 'Avatar: Last Airbender'. But I do get why people like it, sure.
I've said this a lot, it'll either be a hit or miss. And whenever I look at any incarnation of this franchise, even the movies, I don't expect perfection, and I never have or will like so many people do. As I said, no story is perfect.
This fourth installment... was a hit to me. I was on edge of my seat, genuinely surprised at the end of it, and it put me in a good moon for the rest of the night. It really did, guys.
Yeah, my only gripe was it's title, it was a little misleading, but at the beginning we do see how the dinos die. (spoiler warning) But it wasn't about that particular extinction, the Autobots are being hunted down and killed... so okay, maybe the title's not as misleading as I thought.
I don't wanna spoil too much. But the new human cast, I liked. There's one annoying human in there, and he dies, but he's not that annoying as Leo from number two. Mark Walberg, I thought he was cool throughout. The new Autobots in this film got so much screentime, we got to know them, and I loved them. John Goodman as Hound... man did he make my night. There are some little minor things plot-wise, but I felt it was a lot better than the last two.
It's far from perfect, but I didn't expect it to be perfect like so many do. I expected to see a good action film and see robots fight. That's all the show ever was, just like its movies. And I fun with this from beginning to end.
So my score.... it's a 'B' 7.5 out of 10 and I liked it just as much as the first film. Much like I gave the latest X-Men flick a 'B' when critics gave it an 'A'
So really it's to each his own, and I won't judge if you wanna rip this film a new one. If you want a good action film and an adrenaline rush, then this is it. if you think there's going to be anything spectacular or deep-meaning in this, then it's not for you, and you're looking in the wrong place. But many people have given their bad reviews before they even saw it, and if feel that it's gonna suck, then DON'T WATCH IT!
As Dinobot said: "Tell my tale to those who ask. The evil deeds, along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly." And when I publish my stories, if you guys like them, great. If not, fine. I do wanna make a good story, and I hope you enjoy it.
And yes, this was WAY better than the EVA 3.0 movie in my opinion, which I saw this morning, and boy, was I pissed. This movie made up for this morning.

Oh no, see, I was pissed with bay all the way back to RotF. I eventually came to terms with that one, but I will never, ever accept the third, which is why I'm writing my own version, plus crossover elements with SGA. I'm 16 chapters in and still going strong. so FUCK YEAH!! I CAN DO IT BETTER!!!
lol. Well I don't know if you know much about Stargate, since that's working heavily in my crossover, but here's a link:

So only the prologue is done, but the prequel is well into its sixteenth chapter. It ignores the third and fourth movie. It can be found here:

The problem is people watch it and expect G1 or Armada or whatever, but in reality IT'S NOT. It's a NEW adaptation and it's not connected or based on them. Yes there are iconic names like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Hound (Who was fucking AWESOME in AoE) but IT'S NOT G1. Look at it as a whole different Transformers, not expecting everything to be G1. My biggest personal problem with it is the Dinobots are never named, never called Dinobots, and don't have any speaking roles aside from RAWR. But the models were cool, and I have most of the Dinobot toys as is. Scorn is my favorite atm, but I think Strafe (Swoop) is going to take that mantle when I find him because AIR SUPERIORITY BITCHES.
I know it ain't G1, and I've accepted that since the 1st film.
Well remember this was their first debut, they'll probably get their title if they're in another installment. Plus they've been in Lockdown's prison-ship for who knows how many years, I highly doubt they'd had picked up on Earth language that quick. My personally, I'm glad they didn't go 'Me, Grimlock.'
Pretty much the only Dinobot I gave a damn about was Grimlock, but yes, I am glad Scorn WAS in this XD
That's always been my problem from the show, hell even Megatron said this in a spoof during a marathon on teh Hub. "Why don't the Autobots take on Flight modes?" I never got that, even as a kid.

The biggest disappointment I've heard my friends say of this film is that the Dinobots didn't have a speaking-role... I'm willing to let that slide, considering what people REALLY came to see is robot dinosaurs kicking ass. And we all know Bay didn't want the Dinobots in his movies anyway... pfft. Who cares? Be grateful we even GOT the Dinobots at all.
But the general consensus is that we've got at least one awesome new Autobot, and that's Hound... hell, who doesn't love a John Goodman character? He's in every Coen Brothers movie and he was FRED FLINTSTONE, for cryin' out loud.
There's even a shout-out to the Bronies in this movie, which is a nice touch.

Well, in Bay's defense, even HE looks back on "Revenge Of The Fallen" with a general attitude of "what the hell was I thinking?" And even Mr. Flash-Cuts-And-Explosions considers himself an artist, and with good reason... hell, people LIKED films like "Armageddon" and "Bad Boys," and it was only since 2007 and the first Transformers film that Bay suddenly became a no-talent hack and "The Nerd-Devil" of current Internet pop-culture.
Michael Bay is human like the rest of us... and truly, he has no love for a franchise that exists solely as the cash-cow of a toy company... but he still gives us a visual feast and high-octane action that puts asses in theater-seats.
And anyone who says "Well, Hollywood didn't ALWAYS care about the money" has never watched Mystery Science Theater 3000 and seen the cinematic turkeys that were made BEFORE the current "Blockbuster Era." Hollywood has ALWAYS cared about putting asses in theater-seats- because if Hollywood doesn't make money, Hollywood can't make movies.
And a world without ANY movies scarcely bears thinking about.

Like the real world but with no movies...awful.
I wasn't complaining about Michael Bay at all, just that a good majority of his movies will feature at least one explosion, and who doesn't like them? At least he has the freedom of making his movies the way he wants to; he doesn't have to listen to any angry fanboys.
Except for Ninja Turtles. They are not aliens.

No they are not... Bay's just a PRODUCER on that film, anyway. The Turtles are not aliens in the final film, thankfully... so far the only problem I have with the Turtles movie is Megan Fox as April O'Niell... but that's because I don't like Megan Fox.
The rest of the film looks pretty boss. And I was a Turtles fan as a kid, before Power Rangers. >w>

Megan Fox IS my only gripe for this new film, but then again, the 2 actresses to played her throughout the first 3 films... I didn't really care for.
2 things I hope they do in this film: not focus on Raph TOO much. Don't get me wrong, I love Raphael, but I do want the others to get as much focus. the 3 films focused on Raph a little too much. Most of all, I do hope they explain where they get their weapons. They NEVER explain that in ANY incarnation.

Megan Fox is far from my only gripe with this one. I also don't like the implication that Shredder created the turtles in some secret conspiratorial experiment or something, and the turtles... Just, UGH, who was the genius who decided they should look like that, seriously? With the weird mouths and Shrek noses and... Good lord...
The whole "Chessmaster" angle (Eric Sachs, who as it turns out ISN'T the Shredder, but rather his corporate benefactor, as it was his company that developed both the Mutagen Ooze and the Shredder Armor, as well as possibly funding the Foot Clan) has been done to death, I'll admit... but it's an old horse I don't mind getting trotted out, since anyone who says "This Pre-Destiny Stuff Sucks" can turn in their "Official Star Wars Fan" card right now, because it was George Lucas who popularized the whole "Hero's Journey" angle in the FIRST place. Not his fault Hollywood has subsequently beaten it bloody in the absence of a new Star Wars film.
And yes, the Turtles have nostrils now. No more "do they breathe through their buttholes?" fan-theories. Also, the designs of the Turtles are the most individualized they've been in the franchise's entire history- Mikey's look screams "surfer/skater," Donny's covered in gadgets and even has Nerd Glasses, Leo's armored like a samurai and Raph is strapped up like an MMA fighter. Hell, when they were first created they didn't even have color-coded MASKS- you could only tell them apart via their weapons.
And the more I watch the trailers and TV spots, the more I look forward to this film- because this film appears to be hanging a lampshade over the franchise's inherently-ridiculous-yet-somehow-still-awesome premise- four turtles, mutated into humanoid form and trained in the ninja arts by a Japanese rat and named after Italian Renaissance painters, living in the sewers beneath New York City.
At the very least, it'll be better than the new Hercules film... all those monsters Herc fights in the trailers? All culled from an Imagine Spot courtesy of Herc's nephew Iolas. The rest of the film is pretty much standard modern sword-and-sandals a la 300.

No no, it's not that the Turtles have nostrils that I take issue with, nor is it that they're dressed to match their personalities better, don't misrepresent what I said here, it's that they have big honkin' noses and weird mouths and they seriously look like Shrek blended with the Goombas from the Mario movie. I've literally seen fans do a better job of imagining how the Turtles' faces should look in a realistic style.
Nah... I'm used to it by now. Yeah, they changed things... but I'm okay with it. After all, change alone is unchanging...
And that IS a relatively minor gripe. <w< And of COURSE they look like ogres... they're BUILT like them. Seriously, these new turtles clear six and a half feet easy and are all built like tanks- even Donny, who's slighty scrawnier than his brothers. But only SLIGHTLY.

...And all because Michael Bay's name is ADJACENT to this film. It's not Michael Bay... it's his PRODUCTION COMPANY. The guy who directed "Battle: Los Angeles" is directing this film.
*shrugs* Not a favorite of mine, but people like it... especially people in the military. Military-vets like movies that make their branch of the service look badass. I like Battleship for the same reasons my little brother likes Battle: Los Angeles.

Battle: Los Angeles. It's an alien-invasion picture that was the previous work of the guy directing the Turtles movie.
And Michael Bay is a producer... meaning he's only involved tangentially. He's ADJACENT to the film, in the same way Stephen Spielberg was with the first Transformers movie. Really, I'm tired of people saying Michael Bay is the devil, when the sins of Michael Bay are really the sins of Hollywood in general- and people still go to see his movies.
I don't think Michael Bay is a genius, but he's no Uwe Boll... I can think of TWO worse films than Revenge Of The Fallen that came out THIS YEAR- Winter's Tale (a chick-flick disguised as a fantasy-picture that would make Ladyhawke look like Conan The Barbarian) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which looks like an executive's spread-sheet for what they want the rest of the franchise to look like). And by all accounts, "Age Of Extinction" was okay- not the best, but I know I'M not gonna hate it.
In fact, I can name you TWO films that Michael Bay did that critics actually LIKED- Bad Boys 2 and Pain And Gain.

I honestly have yet to see anyone call Bay the worst director Hollywood has to offer, dude. Just because his recent stuff has been poorly-received and people are getting tired of his really childish, problematic common film elements doesn't mean people are calling him the devil either. And yeah, he's had good films, but y'know who else did? M. Night Shyamalan. And let's remember that the guy who gave us The Godfather gave us Jack, and the man behind The Princess Bride was responsible for North, so even the best can put out crap. Therefore, pointing out that Bay has had critically-acclaimed films is moot.
Well said, pal.
And when a director even hates his own movie that clearly sucked, I can't put all the blame on him. I really can't. If m. Night directed, he'll give his arrogant defense that 'people don't get my style', like he pulled off in the 'Last Airbender'. or when you got Hideki Anno creator/director of Evangellion, he'll PURPOSELY screw it up, like he did with Eva 3.0!!!
I guess that's why i don't rag on the man, cuz I've said I don't really care about a franchise that solely wants to make money

It's understandable why the Dinobots don't speak. They were in that prison-ship Primus only knows how long, and I highly doubt they would've picked up on human languages that quick. And, personally, i really didn't wanna hear 'Me, Grimlock' But they were all kickass, and Grimlock's the only Dinobot I ever gave a damn about. Scorn the Spinosaurus looked SOOO good. ^^
Hound was AWESOME! these new Autobots were the coolest and most likeable since the Bots of the first film. Hound is the kinda guy you wanna invite over to your house for a big bowl of chili. XD Drift and Crosshairs were so much fun.
There is a shout to the Bronies. The dumb humor of the 1st 3 films Is very minimal in this one, and what humor that is in this was genuine, I was laughin' XD

Not just that. he was fast, agile. He could give Megatron a run for his money before his change.
And his head turning into a gun... seeing him and his profession and how he hunts, it works. Don't gotta worry about holding the gun and he got direct line of sight/fire. so it works

Y'know, that makes me wonder, if they could get Frank Welker as various characters in these movies, including Soundwave {even though they filtered it wrong and made him sound like Dr. Claw instead}, and brought back Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, why did they have Hugo Weaving play Megatron?
I've always been rather liberal when it comes to Transformers and their toys. While I liked some of the G1 toys, I've always found the cartoon to be boring. Optimus Prime doesn't change beyond leader, and all the other characters are lucky to get a line because there are so many at the very beginning.
Beast Wars on the other hand had the good stuff. They explored the characters and their backstories, and they made them relatable. The toys, while I don't own them but want to, kept the best gimmick(s) about the Transformers: the transforming and deployable weapons. It continues to put stuff like Minicon gimmicks and Cyber Planet Keys to shame, because who wouldn't want a gorilla that has a truckload of weapons like swords and twin blasters?
(After leaving the Ark in 1984, the Autobots wondered who left them a dollhouse.)
Age of Extinction looks rather cool, but so far, the toyline cut me off from almost the whole thing. The first few toys were created specifically for kids, and it left me wondering if the Transformers will last at this rate. Then the deluxe toys and voyagers came, and things got better by a bit. At least there is an Optimus Prime that looked like the older Prime, so now fans can stop complaining about how the movies are "NAWT GEEWUN".
It's gonna be a good movie, I'll bet.

I feel the same way about the show. After watching the animated movie, which i STILL hate more than Revenge of the Fallen, I thought I was gonna be turned off from it forever. yeah, way Too many chars for G1, a lot were just unnecessary. The one, Skids, only had one line and he was only in 2 episodes, barely
Yeah, I love Beast Wars more than G1, for those reason. But, man.... it had so many problems, which I covered in my review of Beast Wars if you wanna look at it, lemme know. While I do love Primal as a Gorilla, I saw a toy where Optimus Prime is a Mammoth. And considered the timeline of Beast Wars, Prehistoric Earth, Gorillas and Cheetahs didn't exist at that time.
Don't let the toys dictate you want to see it, I've seen that in YouTube comments. Besides, hasbro has always been lazy with their products. I collected some G1 toys as a kid, and a lot of them were not good. ooooooh, Rodimus Prime... -_-
I really dug this movie, but your mileage may vary. but if you liked it, cool. if not, fine.

Optimus Prime's death didn't affect me that much, unlike Dinobot's. While Dinobot was involved in a battle that ended up saving the future of humanity with true skill and Shakespearan prose, Optimus was just involved in a scuffle that yielded no winners that survive later. Boring.
Prime was also a lion at one point, and I really don't care for that particular alt mode compared to a gorilla, maybe because it reminded me of that one lion from those books I've blocked out of my brain. Keep in mind that the events of the Beast Wars would take place many, MANY years before the first humans, and at the time, dinosaurs were still in the ground and gorillas and chimpanzees were popping up.
Yeah, Hasbro has been lazy, especially with the size classes. Dark of the Moon Megatron was shorter than his predecessors in robot mode and tiny in vehicle mode. Maybe most of the plastic went into Generations Blitzwing's body, which the sides are slightly too wide for the arms to peg in properly.
From what you said, AoE doesn't sound like it's for everyone. Like every other franchise, this movie, and the other movies and comic books, exists for one reason: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/To_sell_toys

yeah, i was teary when Dinobot died, way more than when Prime died, cuz of the way it happened. And Hot Rod didn't feel bad about it. that's why I didn't like him.
The lion's not that bad, but hey. And I've seen the Japanese Beast Wars... oh boy
But yeah, going in to this, i expected to be entertained at least. And I was, I wasn't bored once and I had a ball watching it. I wanna see it again. So this was a hit to me.

So apparently, when you do jerkish things, you get the Matrix. Better Cheetor, Hot Shot, or even Bumblebee than Hot Rod. Those four are all kid-appeal characters, but at least they know how to react and act maturely.
I haven't, but I've heard it was weird...especially when BWII had sausages promoting the show at one point.
And that is the point of movies; usually mindless entertainment that attracts people like people do zombies.

YES! Especially when Cheetor told Optimus that the pod was shooting at was a blank and he says that it's still innocent. hard to be innocent when you're lifeless. At least have scenes where the Matrix keeps coming to him and we see the regret on his face, and he doesn't want it because of it. THAT WOULDA BEEN SO MUCH BETTER!!!
It is weird.
Oh, Don't get me started on Fast and Furious.

Don't even get me started on Side Burn. I've only watched three episodes of RID and he gets the all time record for annoying. He makes Wheelie look like Sideswipe.
There was even a Maximal that turned into a Tanuki...with balls...on a toy reserved for kids and childish adults.
I don't even watch that stuff. Haven't been paying attention.

Hehe, yep. That's a good conclusion to the transformer movie. I did love Grimlock in there! He was awesome. The only thing I didn't expect was him to be so fricken huge! Then again, I didn't see the original transformer series until I was ten, so there's that.
On the awesome side, they're making a transformers 5! And it will have the gods of the Cybertron Universe: Primus and Unicron!

You know, I'll admit when I first saw this movie I hated it for how it did everything. Character portrayal and all. But nowadays I can actually say I really like AoE. Steve Tucci`s character always brings a smile to my face. Optimus`s reaction to everything is comepletely understandable. Galvatron was a blast to see. And Crosshairs and his car parts trench coat (while hard to believe) was awesome and is my new favorite Autobot.
Just bought it on DVD yesterday, and I still had a blast seeing it. I just love seeing Tucci in anything, I liked his char more than Simmons. Yeah, it's understandable, and seeing Grammer's character sluff off innocents being killed like nothing, you'll say to yourself, "OK, Prime, kill him." This was the best-looking Galvatron I've seen to date, and Frank Welker's voice made it so work. I loved all the 'Bots in this one. Drift, Hound, Crosshairs (I dig the trench coat look) ^^
