So I'm going thru my photo files, searching for a good facial shot I can put in my passport application. Came across this, from a previous trip to Iceland. I remember misting up when I was reading the names and ages of the pilots and others who'd died around Iceland in WW2 (if hitting the ocean didn't smash you outright, the cold, cold sea soon finished you off - many of the graves had no bodies). These were mostly teenagers - just kids!
Thanks, guys. There's no such thing as a good war, but your sacrifice IS remembered and appreciated.

Iceland was a vital stop for aircraft being flown over the Atlantic, as well as weather stations there giving us better weather predictions than the Germans. They had to rely on weather reports from U-boats, which also meant our forces had yet another chance to triangulate the sub's signal then find and sink it.
social security numbers were NEVER to be used for identification so that was a moot point
