It's a week of festivities as our two countries, neighbors and friends, can celebrate our national holidays so close together. Only fitting, I think. To help kick off the fun, here's assembled a lineup of the official, and what could be thought of as "unofficial" national birds. On the far left, of course, is the Loon, whose calls are heard through the boreal forests. Second from the left, of course, the ever familiar Canada Goose. Come on, they even have "Canada" in their name. On the far right, our own majestic Bald Eagle, long the proud symbol of the US. And second from the left, the humble yet noble turkey, icon of our second most celebrated national holiday, and proposed by Benamin Franklin to be our national bird in place of the eagle.
This is an idea I've touched on before, but still really enjoy, so it was fun to sketch this up. So to all of you on both sides of the border, I wish you the best. It's a time to come together, have fun, and take pride in where we come from, whether you enjoy baseball or hockey, burgers or poutine, Bud or Molson, Starbucks or Timmy's, or all of the above. ^v^
