Oh my good golly goodness with artichoke sausage! It actually reminds me of Halo 2. It looks like it could be an alien power core. Those two satelite nodes attached to the central hub would rotate around it and the machinery would charge up the power which would be shot up in a beam through the center. Hey this would go well with your other render with all those domes of energy. I love it, very keen! Love you lots hun!

I read about it in a book called "Amazonia" by "James Rollins" (An amazing book and author, give it a look) in which a dying shaman used this as a ritual to pass on his healing secrets to a adventurer to save their village. They transferred the substance through straws in their noses; the shaman dying as he was 'spiritually' born, and the adventurer learning what is needed to advance the plot.
