I saw a horse do this and it was the funnest thing ever to me so now I feel compelled to draw Zeebra doing it as much as I can.

That is called the Flehmen response, and is what equines (as well as a number of other species) do when they smell something strange or interesting and want to smell it more thoroughly so they can identify it. Commonly done by males of various species in order to determine whether a female is in heat - amongst other uses.
XD. I have no idea about xenicohippus? Never heard of it, but most pre-historic horses were short-legged compared to zebra and horses now-a-days; and three-toed. *Adjust nerdy glasses* Three. Toes. How cute is that shit?! But eitherway. Facts or none! Your art is as amusing as evor <3
