so i went to leave my appartment cause i was a hungry kap and only Mc.Donalds 24/7 sweet tea and salad could sate me..i saw this lil kitten hunkered over on the sidewalk. see, theres lots of strays in the area and seeing them hanging out in the lot isnt uncommon. but usualy they are pretty weary of people and take off the second they see a people.
well, this one oddly enough didnt. she was a good 9 feet away and just sat there. she was a lil one, not a teeny kitten but nowhere near an adult either. i chittered and cooed for her, but she didnt respond. so i shrugged and went on my way. me standing made her shuffle by a car bumper
well, i got back and she was sure enough..still there. sitting on the sidewalk. she watched me, not scared just observing me. i got close to the door and she stood up preparing to run if needed..so i thought, shes probably hungry.
so, i take a peice of chiken from my food and toss it to her. she eyes it nervously but the second i close the door of my building behind me she makes a mad dash for it and greedily scarfs it down. i smile
but..then i realized the poor baby was probably starving.
so, i make my hike up the stairs, and get a takeout lid, and scoop onto it some canned tuna, a lil warmed up rice, and some wetted dog food. and poured water into the tuna can, and took it down. when i opened the door she saw what i had in hand and immediately rushed for the bushes next to the door, she wanted to get a closer look but not at the risk of making herself open. so i sat the water and food down and sat, thinking she would maybe be okay with me sitting next to her if i was quiet
she sat in her bush and almost did, but some guy also coming in the building went past me and made her too nervous. so, i waited for her to calm back down but she didnt so i went inside. it was then i thought to get my camera and come back. and slip the door open and snap a few pics here.
if you look you can see shes missing her back leg. its sad..but alot of the strays around here are missing legs or eyes..the poor dears.
but to see this young one missing a leg broke my heart, i wish animal control would do something for these cats already. ive called before and they just dont seem to care about non-pets.
so yeah. a hungry kitty gets to eat tonight.
i think i might make this a weekly thing, just to make sure shes not starving. shes so little.

That's actually how we got a cat named Neko. I live on what used to be a farm and the idiots of the city, not to be confused with those with actual common sense, drive out into the country, find a barn, and drop off a cat they can't care for. Usually the cats get eaten by wildlife but some survive and become feral. Neko was dropped off near my place, it has a barn but we haven't had animals or hay since forever. We had one rescued cat already, and this orange ball of "I'm terrified" drops onto the porch. I go outside and place the can of food down, and over the course of 9 months (spring to fall) we finally get him to sit next to me and eat. Come winter time we lost him for about three weeks, and we feared the worst until this scraggly thing comes back, half starved looking like hell flops onto the porch and meows for food. Within minutes he's asleep and fed, we setup a heated blanket inside a cat carrier for him and he regained his lost weight and stature. A month later it was far too cold for just the heated blanket so we coaxed him inside, flat out tricked him and shut the door behind him. He ran for cover and we just went about our routines ignoring him even when he came out. We opened the door to allow him outside and the little guy decided ".... fuck you it's cold!" and curled up near the heating vent. About two weeks later we figured he was our cat when he curled up on my chest one night and purred himself to sleep. By then he was clean, well fed, and I even had the ability to give him baths without fear of getting scratched. My grandmother asked me what the japanese word for cat was and thusly, we got Neko. He was still an outdoor cat though and some drivers just don't watch their speed on old back country roads. It was quick at least, if not painless but most importantly the little guy had a family again.
If I were rich, all my monies would go to positive animal related charities.
I cry soooo hard when I see hungry, hurt or homeless animals.
*too emotional and wants to save ALL the things*
I'm so happy you cared enough to give the poor kitters some love for her belly, despite your allergies ;u;
I wish more people cared.

This reminds me very well of the tiny family of cats I take care of when I go to a neighbors house to feed their dog. The mother recently had kittens so it's always a bit of an upsetting thought that they will end up just like their mother. Their friendly at least, and if I was able to, I'd take them home. Sadly, my parents are either allergic or out right hate them.
