I'm going to up and believe here that the emphasis was on realism here.
As they both look like National Geographic esque studies here to me.
I suppose it goes without saying that you got the anatomy of the two spot on!
[It's like you went to a zoo and got both of them to stand stil while you drew them in front of you. ^ ^; ]
Happening to like the lynx on the left there. Mainly because it looks like he (she?) is standing there in the manner of having a majestic portrait taken. [God I love how you drew in the eyes...] And the shading on the two? Nothing short of magnificent! [As usual, it's always with the spots that I have to like, knowing I'll still never be able to draw them in on any living creature]
Personally speaking, I happen to like this one~
