What started as a joke one year ago has come to fruition.
After seeing the giant 1,000,000th fursuiter badge given to Anthrocon to be auctioned off for charity last year, the topic came up with my mate
furmech and my group of friends - it would be funny if someone did a 1,000,001 badge.
A commission from
dragga later, and I had the artwork - very much done in the style of the 1,000,000th fursuiter badge (seen at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11062778/ ) - with Lucas cutting off the fur that was driving the car on that year's standard and giant fursuiter badges.
A purchase of a massive piece of acrylic, and furmech got this made. It was done and finalized on October 11th, 2013 (date-stamped proof at http://imgur.com/a/iUxQv#0) - just in case someone else decided to try the giant badge thing for charity again and go with 1,000,001, I wanted to show this one was done first.
Furmech was also kind enough to make a custom, massive lanyard for this, so I am able to wear it out in public while suiting! Since it was worn out in public today, and pictures taken, I figure this was the best time to go live with this.
Funny enough, this ISN'T the biggest possible badge the machine furmech was using is capable of creating...
I feel like that guy who outbids someone by a dollar on The Price is Right. Such a jackass move but it feels so good when it works.
Hope this catches a number of eyes out there in the fandom!
...and just wait until you see the idea for NEXT year's project.

Hee, nice! After last year's jumbo badge I didn't intent to do another one - just a few intermediate-size ones (about 10" tall) that went in to Anthrocon's Charity Auction this year. :)

I saw those, I heard the 10,000 one went for $275 or so and something else went for $500.
This thing is actually wearable (with a custom lanyard that was made for me by
furmech) and some pictures may surface of me wearing it from the first day of the con.
I wondered what you were going to think when you saw this, actually.

Quite amusing! I would be extra careful wearing it if it isn't done out of 1/4" thick acrylic or so - the more common 1/8" tends to shatter quite easily at very large sizes, especially if you have sharp corners in the top hole rather than radiuses and if there is any crazing in the edges - cracks will start in the crazing and instantly shatter a piece when they run. This is actually why we used thicker stock for last year's jumbo badge - the first one we tried cracked after handling it for some pictures. Thankfully we did it well in advance so we had time to special-order the thicker material and redo it.
I saw the image come across the front page but didn't see it at the con! Great job!!
If you do have access to a laser cutter, I would urge you to consider creating some cool items for future charity auctions if you are so inclined to do so. It's always nice to help create interesting items that people are willing to bid on for the sake of raising money for good causes. I certainly had no idea the jumbo badge from last year would raise anywhere near as much as it did, but I'm always glad to be surprised by the generosity of people like
scootersquirrel for bidding on such things. :)
