This is a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon fanfiction thats more inspired by the same universe then directly set in it. Take it as you will.
Its about an overweight, retired adventurer Pikachu named Peak who lives with his sister Chi in a village inhabited by Pokémon akin to the one seen in Red/Blue Rescue Team. Its set to contain an awesome adventure, some fat Pokemon, and a unique look at the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon universe so please go ahead and read if it sounds like something you'd be interested in.

UGH! This took way longer then it should... despite finishing school recently and having my shifts at work die down I still put this off BIG TIME (so much for Stephen King's advice for writing 500 words/day...)
Anyways, its here now, and will hopefully more will keep coming on a more consistent basis. I am happy for all the comments I receive and am overjoyed you are enjoying the story so far. I just hope this wait hasn't driven you away in the meantime...
Anyhoo, I don't think this chapter is the most exciting, but it does kick start the main plotline so things are bound to pick up soon. On a side note for those interested, we will also be seeing that Peak isn't the only one who has let retirement get to him, and some more fat Pokemon are bound to make an appearance (what kinds? How big? Keep reading to find out ;) )
Once again, I'd like to thank all those who are continuing to read this, as well as any newcomers who have just stumbled upon this (REMEMBER TO READ THE INTRO PARTS FIRST) and once again, I hope you enjoy and leave any feel free to leave comments below. See ya!
Sun shone down on the wide open clearing that Peak and Chi were resting in. Arms dangling, Peak laid on a tree branch basking in the sun while Chi ran around below, giggling as she jumped out of the bushes and sent electric shocks at leaves twirling in the air. Despite Peak’s silent, still form in the tree branches above, the constant twitching of his ear betrayed his true alertness. In the short span of two weeks, Peak and Chi had moved from 4 different clearings, and had only settled in this one the night before. It seemed only like every time they had discovered a new potential home that something would go amiss, whether it be a flooding after a rainfall, a caving in of a burrow after trying to expand, or even a group of Pokémon descending and claiming the place for themselves.
Peak sighed. The melting ice and diminishing piles of snow may have meant the end of what had been a long, cold winter Peak held little solace in the fact. Survival was a constant struggle, and Peak was always worried about the future. What the next day was to bring? Would they find food? Would they be driven out again? Or what if they become too weak to continue on, and slowly waste away until...
Peak’s chest rose and fell as he tried to steady himself against his anxiety. Him and Chi had survived this long, and with any luck things would get easier with the warmer weather coming. Berry bushes would replenish themselves, there would be no more cold nights spent in burrows, and maybe, just maybe they would find another group of Pikachus...
Peak’s eyes flung open with his sudden realization of the silence that had taken hold of the clearing. Turning over quickly on the branch, his eyes darted back and forth, yet he saw no sign of Chi anywhere in the clearing.
Peak moaned as he saw bright lights dance across his vision. Squinting, trying to shield the worst of it from his eyes, he vaguely tried to make out the area around him. He could see the round shape of the Chansey beside him, but around her... were there other Pokémon?
Where was Chi?
“Chi! Chi!” Peak yelled, scrambling down the branch. Down at eye level with the clearing now, Peak could see a sign of fresh trampling at the edge of tall grass near one side of the clearing. Pumping his legs, he ran to the patch of grass and looked into the overgrowth.
He saw her leaning forward towards the ground, looking down.
“Peak I...”
“Poor...”
“Can you hear...”
Voices floated in out of Peak’s head. He vaguely became aware of the presence of the Pokémon in the room again and he realized he must be in the Chansey infirmary.
“I can’t believe...”
“But Chi...”
There was a fire... the house was falling apart... but Chi... Peak struggled to focus.
“Chi!” Peak exclaimed, as he ran to her. Suddenly Chi turned around, and to Peak’s surprise he saw a Caterpie sit up beside her. After a moment’s pause, the Caterpie quickly scurried off. Looking down at the ground, Peak saw a half eaten berry sitting by Chi’s feet. Looking down at Chi, he saw her meet his gaze challengingly. Peak let out a sigh.
“Chi...”
“Is he coming too? I thought I saw his eyes flicker!”
As the voices became clearer, so did the pain too. Peak’s lungs burned, his leg throbbed, and it seemed every word he heard sent a searing pain through his head. Peak wished they would all just stop talking and leave him be.
“What did you want me to do? I just found him lying in the bushes!” They were both yelling now. Sparks flew off Peak’s cheeks in frustration.
“I know you were trying to be kind, but we just can’t go wasting food like that! Who knows when we could find another berry bush?!”
“So what? Don’t you see? He was just like us when we were young; alone and defenceless, he needed someone to look after him!”
“No. That’s where you’re wrong.” Peak spoke evenly and firmly, surprising Chi into a look of uncertainty.
“No one looked after us when we were young. Out here, no one else looks after each other. Even groups of Pokémon don’t care or wait for its weaker Pokémon. If I’m ever gone someday, I hope you can understand this. Your own survival is the most important.”
Chi was silent. She looked at the ground with an expression of uncertainty, then looked up at Peak. After a moment, her face changed into that of frustration, and she let out a huff as she turned and stomped back into the clearing. Peak stared at the half-eaten berry in silence.
“I think he’s coming too!”
“Peak! Peak! Can you hear me?”
Peak moaned again as he felt a steady consciousness come about him. With small twitches of his eyelids, he slowly opened his eyes adjusting to the sudden brightness. As he began to see normally, he found that almost the entire village had been packed into the small infirmary, and were now all crowded around the bed, watching as he awakened.
Everyone started murmuring in relieve. “Peak we’re so glad you’re awake! It’s almost been three days!”
“Three days?” Peak said groggily, suddenly being brought into focus as he processed the information. “But where’s Chi?”
A sudden silence overtook the room. Peak felt memories of the last few nights rushing back to him. Peak closed his eyes and bowed his head.
“Chi... No.”
The moon shone through the infirmary window. Peak had told everyone that he was going to sleep, but right now sleep was the last thing on his mind.
He thought over what the village Pokémon had told him; nearly the only thing Peak had asked about all day. Leading away from his house, a visible trail of an unknown party of Pokémon was traced by some of the village’s aerial Pokémon for a short distance until it lead into the forest. Picking up on where the bird Pokémon left off, a team of small but fleet footed Pokémon from the village continued to follow the trail for another half day’s journey. From what they could tell, the marauding party was heading upstream for the mountains.
“Good.” Peak whispered to himself. “The mountains would be impending to them with a large party, giving me more time to catch up.”
As quietly as he could, Peak hoisted himself off the infirmary bed and made his way across the room. Despite the other’s suggestions to send a team of village Pokémon after the marauding party, Peak refused the suggestions. When asked what to do instead, Peak simply asked for the iron chest he kept underneath his bed.
As it turned out, getting the chest had not been as easy as a task as it seemed. As expected, by the time all the village water Pokémon had all gathered around Peak’s and Chi’s house they had found it pointless to try to battle the raging inferno, and had merely waited for it to collapse before beating out the flames. They had then spent the last three days going through the remains of his house, and after shifting through most of Peak’s possessions (most severely burnt away or destroyed) they had only managed to recover Peak’s chest from his old room this morning. Now, Peak kneeled beside it in the infirmary going through his old adventuring stuff.
Looking through the contents of the chest, Peak felt the memories of his old adventuring days run through him. A Meowth coin, a Cubone’s skull, the end of a Hercaros’ horn with Peak’s dried blood still on it; they all were untold stories that Peak had once hoped to tell to Ch-
Peak stopped in mid thought. He felt tears well up in his eyes, and he blinked hard quickly shoving them away. He will tell the stories to Chi. She was out there now, alone and afraid, but not giving up hope. Peak told her to look after herself. She will survive.
Shoving all his mementoes aside, Peak got to the bottom of his chest where his survival gear lay. He looked at his collection of bandannas. Holding it up out of the chest, Peak saw how truly small each one was. With years of living easy, Peak’s neck had significantly widened, and the addition of multiple chins now meant that the bandanna was now nowhere near to fully wrapping around his neck and reaching over his mouth as it once had. After pondering the problem for a few moments, Peak had the idea of tying the bandanna’s end to end, forming a larger bandanna overall. Though a quick look in the mirror confirmed to Peak how ridiculous this looked, he did see no other solution to the problem.
Next was his Treasure Bag. This was the bag that adventurers clipped around their waist to store all their items. Looking down at his massive gut, Peak immediately knew that this was going to be a problem. Holding the bag up to his massively swollen gut, Peak saw the straps did not even reach each of his hips let alone clip together in the back. With a sigh, Peak dropped the bag on the ground. He would have to travel light if he was going to carry the bag by hand. Hoping to exit quietly, Peak opened the door enough to slip his wide figure out, only to reel back in shock when he saw all of the village Pokémon gathered outside his door.
“I thought you had all gone to bed!” Peak shouted, standing dumbstruck through the open door frame.
“Peak... we knew you were going to after Chi alone.” The village’s Chansey nurse said standing right outside the door.
Peak stood there conflicted. “I... I know. And I know how much we’ve been through together, and how much I trust and come to know you all. But... this is my own personal problem, and I don’t want to put any of you in danger. That’s why I was going to leave secretly. And even though you have found me now, I still refuse to travel with anybody.”
Chansey sighed and shook her head. “We figured you were to say that too. But if you don’t want us to help later, please let us help you now.” And with that, Chansey reached behind her and held out a large collection of energy drinks, berries and seeds and handed them to the surprised Peak. “It will likely be a long journey, and you aren’t used to travelling so be sure to have plenty of these to build up your strength.”
With a deep purr Persian flicked a hefty bag of Poké at Peak. “Consider this interest for your long term deposits. I’m sure you’ll find at least one Kecelon merchant on the road.”
And as if on cue, the village’s Kecelon stepped forward. “And where is your Treasure Bag for holding all these generous gifts?”
“Well... Er...” Peak stuttered embarrassed. “I wasn’t exactly able to fit-”
“Ah! Say no more!” Kecelon cut in. “I’ll re-tailor the strap for you to fit. I could certainly not imagine you getting very far carrying all that junk in hand!”
---
By the next morning, Peak had his bag retailored, was showered with numerous gifts and even made a hearty breakfast. The village had then gathered in front of the main square to see Peak off.
“Everyone... thank you so much for everything. I promise you; me and Chi will be back home soon enough! And believe me; we’ll have quite a party then!”
A cheer rose up from the village Pokémon. And with a good laugh and high spirits, Peak set off on his journey.
In the light of the flickering fire, Peak thought about what he had said to Chi earlier that day. What did she think of him now? Did she think he was a selfish jerk?
A rustling sound from the bush immediately caused Peak to his feet and prepare for a fight. But a second later, he saw the Caterpie from this morning, followed by what must have been his mother Butterfree. Still feeling a bit apprehensive, Peak approached them cautiously.
“H-Hello. What is it that you want?”
The Butterfree’s eyes met Peak’s. “I just wanted to say thank you for feeding my son. He told me that a Pikachu had found him earlier, and had fed.”
Peak paused and looked down at the Caterpie. He was staring up at him quizzically. He must clearly be young to not fully communicate, or remember, that it was Chi not Peak who had helped him. Peak sighed.
“I am not the one to thank. My sister; she was the one who had found and helped your child. If I was the one who found him, I would not have helped. I’m sorry.”
“Aha! And so you tell truth! Just as I expected” Suddenly a Kecelon materialized from the air in front him, his colors swirling from his camouflage to the standard Kecelon green. Peak, momentarily surprised by his sudden appearance, sparked his cheeks, getting ready to defend Chi and him from this strange attacker.
The Kecelon merely clicked his long tongue.”Peace, brother. We wish not to harm you. I approach you now, representing a group of Pokémon.”
Peak backed up instinctually towards the clearing side where Chi was sleeping. “What do you want from us?”
“We are a group of travelling Pokémon of all different species and type, such as Butterfree and Cateprpie here, who tested you. And my, did that tests pass results! But, to answer your question, what do we want from you?” Kecelon flashed a sly grin. “Well, we have a proposition...”
