Twilight of the Greatest Generation

This piece is dedicated to my Grandmother Helen, who died at the age of 94 on 27 March 2014, and this loss is one of the reasons why the last few months have been more than a little difficult for me, as she, along with my late Grandfather, were two of the family members that I always respected most.
Grandma had a long, full and eventful life, and just like my late Grandfather, whom she now joins on the other side, she truly was a member of the Greatest Generation in every way that matters, in that she and her family struggled through the Great Depression, and like nearly everyone in her generation, all came together to help one another through this time, and also came together twice more for both World War II and Korea.
There are so few of them left now, and I wonder if we will ever see their like again...
This piece is my own lament to that fact, as well as to preserve some of the memories of my Grandmother as I knew her best.

I read it at her memorial last week.
