Having now settled in Utah, and in a new work place among game developers and co-artists -- I found myself asking "Am I the only one here who plays Final Fantasy XI?". It does without saying that it is not exactly a very popular MMORPG, besides being one of the best ones on the market (not to mention the most difficult). So in my spare time between Maya projects, I painted this up to go on the company art board. The image is of my character in the game in full Dancer Artifact Armor.
Also, with the painting itself I tried something a little new. This was a very quick painting! Only took about five hours from concept to completion, and the process was built up from a grey-scale base. Divided into several layered color pallets, the result is rough and uncleaned -- but still it's not meant to be a work of art anyway! Just practice, experimenting, and a bit of humor for the artist. Hope you like it.

Hard does not mean "best" it may have it's charms but that does not make it good. I can't judge though, but I do know Hard for Americans = not fun. This is FF though so this was most likely made for the Japanese who prefer a much harder game, and never "dumbed down" for us wankers :P
trust me, after getting 2 70s and a couple 60+ on WoW i've realized... it's the exact same thing over and over, they just change up the 'target'. you're still doing the same thing. kill X mob 50 times by pressing 1 button, walk to X location, etc...
Sure FFXI isn't much different on that front but at least it's challenging.

Hmm, the funnjy thing is few WoW players I know never really gave FFXI a good chance. They always right it off as stupid in the first few hours, sadly they fail to realize just how complicated the game is for beginners -- and therefore don't really get very far. Shame really. But this isn't a thread about WoW versus FFXI! hehe. This are comments for a picture I painted! Hey, how about that, comment on that :D!
I love FFXI, I mean I really love it. So many zones with beautiful design, the only MMO that is heavily story oriented which I like. Major focus on battles that require strategy (especially in CoP).
I wish I could play it, but I simply can't. The leveling process is just nasty, I got to level 66 and just couldn't take the drool inducing grinding for hours on end anymore. The clunky interface and limited macro system doesn't help it either.
If they made an updated engine that has a great UI on the same level as WoW though, I'd return in a heartbeat.

Actually in recent updates they've made the grinds much easier, they've expanded the Macros from 12 x 10 pages to 12 x 10 pages x 20 books. Added more macro sets to jump between books to have limitless macros at your fingertips.
But if you want the UI to be like WoW? Look elsewhere. I perfer not having junk cluttering my screen, and I perfer everything to be hidden. Perhaps you weren't using a PS2 controller for your PC? You should, the menus were made for controller navigations while WoW was built for Keyboard and Mouse. Personally, I prefer controllers because I like NOT having Carpal Tunnel syndrome.
