I always knew that canines and felines have it in them to be friends with each other. I mean, really! They share so many of the same things, many of the same lifestyles. Even in real life, they are friends. A lot of the time, they may appear to be enemies, but really they are not. Many of the showdowns between the two species are actually a way to pass the time when they get bored in the same way we do games and competitions (which also helps keep their bodies fit and their minds sharp). Sometimes they may have arguments that requires physical advantages and dominance to win, in which case the better of the two to win the match will also win the argument. In many cases they can hold certain things against each other and thus have ongoing matches until one or the other wins the argumentative battle. So dogs and cats (the domestic species at least) are not really enemies, but instead they are just competitive rivals in a whole big game we could never fully understand, for it was ongoing between the two species since near the beginning of ancient recorded history.
My RL father had owned a couple of dogs in his lifetime, as well as a few cats. One of the dogs had this silly little secret: she loves cats, but does not let on to anyone, and even pretended to hate them. One night, as my father was on his way to bed, he peeked out the back door at her, and guess what he saw? His dog was nursing a pair of kittens! Like a mother giving milk to her baby! But when she realized that she and the kittens weren't alone and discovered my father watching, she immediately got up and sent the kittens away while barking at them as if that was what she was doing all along, like the whole mother-dog-nursing-kittens thing never even happened! Talk about strange behaviors! Please note that this is second-hand information based on my real-life father's first-hand experience about a real event that actually happened.
