Just a little writing practice, and this was the outcome of that practice. I havn't written a story in quite some time, and wanted to give it a try again.
She stared into the darkness. Everything around her seemed to have a white mist around it, but despite the weather being cold and damp, she felt warm inside. Like something was telling her everything was OK. In the distance, she saw a group of people standing around a hole, and their moans of sadness echoed through the entire area around her. Something was going on, and she wanted to know what it was. She had to know. So she headed over to them. Upon approaching, the group seemed to get further away. As if the land was expanding, and forcing her to really force herself to move faster and catch up to them. But upon each step, it just kept getting longer, and draining her of all determination to find out what was going on. Suddenly, she started to feel something heavy on her. As if something was forcing her down, but upon looking up, nothing was there.
“What's happening to me?” She asked, confused.
After a few minutes later, the moans stopped, and the heaviness disappeared. When she turned around, someone was standing in front of her.
“Who're you” She questioned, backing up a little from the figure.
“So.... how does it feel, newbie?” The figure asked. It's voice seeming sympathetic
“Feel?” She repeated
“Has the heaviness gone?” The figure continued
“Oh... yes! How did you know about that?” She replied. She was concerned how this stranger knew about it, when it was her who felt it.
“Because I've felt the same thing for quite some time now” The figure groaned, sadly
“Oh.... I'm sorry! Well... I'm sure it'll go soon. It did for me!” She smiled trying to re-assure the figure.
“No... it won't. Not till I can find what I'm searching for” The figure responded, sharply, then disappeared.
She sighed and looked at the floor, as she left the area.
An hour later, lights seemed to show up, and helped give an uplifting mood to her, as she entered the town. Whilst looking around, she saw a few people roaming the streets. She smiled and decided to walk over to a few who were gathered around a pub. Her presence however was not welcomed, as they didn't even look to say anything. She groaned and walked away from them, unhappy with them not even taking notice of her, and continued on, heading home. Upon getting closer, she saw a police car outside the house, and ran towards the door. She heard crying from inside, and swiftly entered the home. Screaming of disbelief filled the air, and tears hit the floor, soon making 2 puddles on the carpet. She looked around, and walked over to the policeman near the door, who was holding a clipboard, and was writing notes. After skim reading the notes, and thinking back to what she'd seen earlier, as well as what the figure said, a sudden chill ran down her body, and the warm feeling inside soon disappeared. She started to shake her head, and panic. She then looked at her hands, and saw the ground through them.
“NO!!!! Th... this.... this isn't right! I didn't fall in! … I... I regained my balance... they caught me!!!!” She cried. But she was wrong. Her mind wasn't remembering everything clearly. Her friends didn't catch her. They were the ones who threw her in the hole. They were the ones who filled the hole with dirt. It was the dirt that gave her the heavy feeling before she met the figure. She was dead before she even entered the hole.
