So, this was kinda inspired by a long standing opinion of mine about this new massive fad in the fandom, YourCharacterHere AUCTIONS. Not just YCH, but YCH auctions. Paying 5 times at least what a drawing is worth, just so you're "the winner". Me and Recca have always seen eye to eye on it, which is why I included his fursona in with the comic.
Never understood why people pay SO MUCH MONEY for YCH auctions when they could just hire them at their normal commission rates for whatever pose they want. An artists: Please be kind and fair and put caps on your YCH auctions so they don't pass your normal work rates. Don't rip people off, k? Thx.
Thank you Pie for being my voice in the furry world and helping express myself. XD Even if it is just about something dumb like YCH auctions. haha! XD I always love your work. Thank you. :)
Note: That $700 figure was based off a real amount someone paid for a YCH auction. No joke.

YCHes: Turning the table since the new tens.
Normally it's the commissioners who screw over the artists given the rates professional artists get charged. (...to be fair they normally have to provide a much higher level of finish.) But with some YCHes, man, those commissioners got robbed.

I agree to an extent, however please remember that the artists aren't forcing the bidders to bid the amount they do. The bidders themselves should do their research and decide whether or not a piece is worth bidding X amount of dollars for.
In the end, it's your hard-earned money and you should be allowed to use it however you wish. If you want to bid hundreds of $$ for a piece, go for it! People need to stop shaming these people tbh.

Agree I do not. YCH auctions could be a great thing, if they were just regulated better and made auto-buys at normal and reasonable levels. Like make the AB be the amount it would cost of the client just hired the artist to draw what is there plus a SMALL amount more.
Instead, artists just seem to let the price explode and don't help keep people's poor money choices in check. Charging someone $200 through a bid for something you'd normally charge $50 for (for example), is borderline extortion.

We will have to agree to disagree then, I suppose.
I repeat, the artist is in no way forcing the bidder to bid the amounts they do. You can't blame an artist because YOU decided to pay $500 on a drawing. That's foolish.
Real Life auctions don't work that way either. Someone will not auction off an item and then stop the bidding once it reaches the retail price. They will let it run the alloted time to give others a chance to outbid and get the item they really want.
May I also add, that adding a cap often times ruins the auction for others even more, because a lot of people will just automatically AB and not even give others a chance. I've seen this with many popular artists recently (Falvie and her design auctions, for example)
You also have to remember that some artists don't take commissions as often as others (sometimes even not at all), so a YCH could be someone's only chance at a piece from them. That automatically bumps the value of the artwork up, and the bidders know this. Anyone bidding with a paypal is an adult, and can make their own decisions. I ask again that you please stop blaming the artists for the high-priced auctions. In the end, the artist and winning bidder are both happy and get what they want. There's nothing wrong with that, and if you really don't like how high an auction is, just don't bid. This way, you lose nothing

I only dislike when an artist has their commissions at a low price, then suddenly closes them forever and just does YCHs that get much more then the commissions. Why not just raise the prices of your commissions? I kinda suspect so it's harder to get art from that artist so people will throw more money down when a YCH is posted.
My favorite was the time I saw an artist say, and I'm not kidding, "I was going to draw my character in this (fully done picture with only a base head and stuff.) but I figured I could make money and do less of the work then making a new YCH from scratch." It upset me so much that I stopped watching that artist. :/

You know what they say - there's a sucker born every minute. I bet if Barnum were still alive today, he'd be a trillionaire and would be able to put hundreds of people through college of of just YCHes, Kickstarters *cough*Potato Salad*cough*, and selling virtual items in Valve's multiplayer games.
afterthought to mention: That way, if they reach the prices I'd have set for those options anyway, they're available to the bidders. If they go above and beyond, then better for me. Sometimes, commissioners just want a piece, but don't have a pose in mind. This helps some of them resolve that conundrum.
I'm not against YCHs because if an artist is hurting for cash they can make what they need with one auction instead of working on a dozen commissions. But yeah it can get nuts sometimes and I think some people just get caught up in the competition and lose sight of what's going on, when you treat an auction like a contest it's easy to go overboard fast and not realize it till your shelling out your rent for that month.
That's not the fault of the artist of course, though when I see the same person post wave after wave of YCHs and ask for massive starting bids way above what they usually charge for a commission I can't help but think maybe their getting a little greedy.

While people might be stupid with money, at the same time artists can just say "No, sorry, that's not fair to take $700 from you for something that I normally charge $80 for".
But, greed is universal. Something all humans suffer from. Not saying that don't need to pay bills like everyone else, but being able to pay rent with about 3 hours of drawing isn't what I call fair.
