This is a study drawing for
jurrel commission. A few months I posted some development sketches of his character link Skyline, now it is time to start organizing the background elements for his commission.
Now Skyline's piece is set in the Fallout Equestria universe so Canterlot I will be portraying in the picture will have recently suffered the mega-spell destruction, and traces of the pink smoke will still be visible in the final picture. However I also plan to do several aerial views of the Princesses Palace so I figured I might as well do an intact version first that I can bomb-out later. To date I've only done two other works involving the palace link link
Now one of my watchers once described Canterlot as being "made out of Penrose Triangles link and wishful thinking" and I will admit this is one of the trickiest pieces of architecture I have ever tried to draw, and architecture is not my strong suit. Fortunately I have now flown over and near the palace in my dreams several times and I was able to squeeze some memories out of them that helped me with this drawing. I have deliberately left the city out of the picture so as to not clutter up the drawing.

Nice perspective on a difficult subject. Canterlot (the castle) has always looked smaller that I imagine it would be. Unless it's similar to the Tardis by way of using multi-dimensional portals for the internal infrastructure. This image seems to get closer to the external dimensions I find more feasible to expect from what we have seen from inside the castle in the past.
I always just thought "it's a setting chock full of magic, and the Royals Sisters have been putting spells on it for ages, therefore magic holds it up... somehow" Actually this perspective, it looks an awful lot like that science class trick "how many coins do we need to stack so the last one can be hanging off the edge?" BTW - good art, I can imagine walking around the doors and balconies.
