Decided to hammer a goat face onto my bedroom wall.
The face was skinned from a kill I made last year on a hunt.
I don't know how to properly tan it, so it is hard and smells funny.
I have his skull and horns outside. Waiting for maggots or other things to properly eat away at various bits of hard to reach flesh in the skull cavity.

Ghosts and stuff like that are not understood, whether they exist or not. Since they are not understood, there isn't a way to know a defense, apart from unproven theories.
I live alone, and my apartment is kind of old. At night when I pass by dark rooms walking to the bathroom for example, I tend to imagine faces appearing, or seeing a shadow in the bathtub before I manage to switch on the lights. Haha. It doesn't help that I enjoy reading creepy stories and watching creepy videos online.
Fear is a consequence of imagination.

absolutely... it's just the fact that you can't *do* anything about them that really freaks me out. If I could only just point a shotgun at them or something...
We don't understand them, they don't have a physical, harmable form, we don't even know if they're real or not! That shit just messes with my head!

Hum. Speak for yourself, I understand the spirit world just fine.
You should probably actually ASK the goat to watch over your space. I'm sure he'd be amenable. Monthly offerings, i.e. food left on a plate underneath and discarded the next day would be useful, not so much because of the offering itself as because your attention provides a source of energy.
Beautiful piece, in any case. I have a few skulls in my home, as well as mandellas, warded mirrors, railroad ties, salt lines, and a number of other protective measures, When you're in my line of work, you can't be too careful.
A note on goats, they are very spiritual animals, who like cats can see readily into the spirit world. This is why they have such a large role in voudon rituals among other traditions. They know things.

The spirit world baffles me, as I am a very hands on/logical person. Anything that I cannot physically measure is guaranteed to give me a headache if I try to work with it, because I cannot be 100% certain of what I am dealing with. I really hate theorizing and not knowing the whole truth. Our current human technology does not grant the science community much insight into these 'unknown' topics.
I got into demonolatry and spiritual satanism last year, and did quite a lot of reading and rituals, so I know a little bit. Its just that I feel insecure about whether it is 'real' or not. I will read a book and think " What if this is only the Authors personal way of interpreting these things, but isn't actually how it really is?" Either way, I have a newfound respect for those who choose to get themselves into occultism.
Either way, because of my fear of aggressive paranormal entities, I have done rituals and placed seals around my home in the name of Andromalius. I also carry Andromalius sigil with me if I go out at night alone. I don't know if it works or not, but it doesn't hurt to try.
I really love goats, they are such wonderful animals and I love their symbolism.
How did you personally get to know the spirit world?

What is real?
How do you know anything is real? There is only one answer, because you have experienced it. What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes. Sensory data is the only means by which we interact with the world, to doubt that data is madness. What we define as reality is that which can be verified by the shared experience of other people who we have decided to assume are real.
If you experience something, it's reasonable to assume the experience was real until proven otherwise, and apply Occam's Razor as far as explanations. If you summon a demon and all the candles go out in a room without a draft... well, as Sherlock put it, once you eliminate the impossible, whatever is left, however unlikely, must be the truth.
I believe in what I do because I can see them. I have more reason to believe in spirits and demons than I do to believe in your existence.
There's no reason to be afraid if you are cautious. Knowledge is the cure for fear. Learn all that you can about what frightens you.
I was raised in a family of witches and I have been gifted since birth, so it was only natural that I should continue to pursue such arts. I chose it as a career. I've been studying and practicing full time for over a decade, and at least part time for as long as I can remember.

Originally I boiled my skull for a few hours so the main bits of meat fell off, however there still remained bits and pieces in the brain and nasal cavity.
It's been left on my balcony, exposed to sun , rain and frost, for a few months now. The meat inside is dried but not going away. Got any idea how to fix this?

Religiously, I am a Hellenist, a follower of the Greek gods.
Magically, I do a little of everything. I suppose I would be best identified as a witch. Pharmakeia is the Greek term. I am first and foremost a practitioner of the dark arts. I specialize in divination, the summoning of spirits (from all cultures) and magical protection. Every cultures has their own terms, each with slightly different connotations, so I find it easiest to use layman's terms.
I have, to one degree or another, studied every culture and every magical discipline to which I have access. Obviously some of the South American and African tribes which have no contact with outsiders are somewhat more difficult to learn from, and some traditions are closed to outsiders. Being clever only gets you so far with people who've sworn an oath of secrecy.
Studying magic tends to be a bit of a needle haystack situation. Little can be done about that. Read everything, apply deductive reasoning, and keep what rings true to you, discard the rest.
Sylvia Browne and Doreen Virtue are charlatans from start to finish, Might be right by accident now and then, but it's not worth the effort.
Scott Cunningham is reliable, mostly 101 type stuff, but he glosses over the dark arts. For instance he labels all psychoactive plants as "poisonous"
and refuses to discuss their medicinal applications.
I've never seen anything wrong in Ted Andrews' work, but again it's all 101 stuff and I haven't read as much of it.
I'd recommend brushing over Drawing Down the Moon for its history information.
Once you're ready for advanced, go to the turn of the century source material. Crowley and his ilk, but be careful, all those books were designed to mislead. Crowley in particular meant to hurt anyone too stupid to understand his work. Some of it's bullshit on purpose.
You'd also be well served to read the OLD stuff. Hesiod, Homer, The Lesser (and Greater) Key of Solomon, and so on.
Your best bet is to try to find a group practicing in your area and talk to them.

I've been reading crowleys work, the Egyptian book of the dead, Thelema stuff, material involving gnostic demons and demonolatry books by Connolly. I am very interested In reading the key of Solomon.
Thanks for the recommendations! Honestly lately I have been considering giving up on this stuff entirely because of the uncertainty of it, but I now feel a bit of that curious spark back.
