Well, more like Merman for this one. ;D
The first of the Mermaid pinups for this month, this was commissioned by
and features their character Tabbystorm with a fishy tail inspired by the Mandarin fish, one of my favorite saltwater fish because of it's bold colors and patterns. :3
Again, posting the scan and the photo side by side - the photo here is a big bright in the corner so you kinda need both to get a good idea of what the piece looks like, but in the future I'm considering just skipping the scan process to take a nice photo of each piece instead, since the colors turn out much truer to real life.
I am still open for pinups for this month, though all of the Night Sky slots have been filled. Details will be posted shortly in a new submission, please stick around if you're interested in getting one for yourself. :3
I have a Tumblr page! :D ---> http://luthiennightwolf.tumblr.com/
I will no longer be running the Facebook page so please follow my Tumblr if you'd like to continue seeing sketches, uncolored inks, and other art-related stuff. :3

Because I don't have the know-how to mess with the settings, nor the patience. I plan to take better photos if that becomes my main method, these were just done for the tumblr page so I didn't have the best lighting. Sometimes the colors are better in the scan, and sometimes they get completely washed out (light blue and some shades of green in particular).
Funny, I have played with the idea of skipping to photos too, because the scans are always too bright and without contrast.
The only thing we have to deal with then, will be the light on the photo. ^^"
The image is beautiful! The patterns on the fish tail and the dynamic pose you gave him are very well done. :)
And again you made one of your beautiful simplistic backgrounds, I love them.

Going to be controversial, photo looks way worse. Granted if the lights much better the colours come out more, but the image is much more blurry and there is light/shadow interference. Also the line work looks more fuzzy in the photos IMHO.
Going to parrot what a lot of other people have said and to adjust the scanner settings, or post process. Tinkering with light saturation levels with images with a white background might be a start.
