I swear I've seen something like this before but I can't remember who did it. Oh well, I wanted to upload it anyways. I'm always having to try to explain what furries are to my parents. :I
My mom doesn't get it, my dad just lets it alone.
Sorry for his bad anatomy, I didn't feel like even attempting it.
Oh haha I hope no one gets offended. :c It's a joke ^^

My mom is pretty understanding about most things, but others... no. I was trying to explain why I was drawing a badge of a cute anthro animal for an adult male. She started asking a whole bunch of really rude inappropriate questions. She wanted to know why a person would WANT such a drawing, and when I tried to explain the basics of furrydom and what a convention was, she just lost it. That was just over a clean badge drawing I did. One time I tried to explain to her what a fetish was, and she stared at me like I was absolutely demented. My dad on the other hand gives me weird looks sometimes but couldn't really care less. haha
My dad doesn't even talk to me but he is a glorious, pipe smoking gentleman. My mother is a confused woman but she appreciates the billions of dollars I obviously rake in due to obscure and slightly obscene dribble drabble I call art. The environment of my house is an unsettling pile of money which I roll in, daily.
Jokes aside, my mom doesn't mind what I draw simply because I make money off it and can spend my time elsewhere easily. I think she also isn't weirded out by it since It's only a small fraction of what I actually create irl (most f my stuff is realism, I only do the cartoony furry stuff in my spare time). My mom is one of those people who can be super weirded out by something but if her kid's do it she trys to support it in the best way she can. And as I said below my mother and I share an awkward and brutal sense of humor about everything we do. So that makes it a joyful family activity.

My dad's been flipping out on me cause I "sit on my ass all the time and never do any work." I try to explain to him that I'm slowly trying to earn money through commissions, and he himself commissioned an animation from me. I said, "Dad, do you expect to animate while I'm jogging?" He only gets angry cause he sees me sitting around working on art as soon as he gets home from work, and to him I'm just wasting monumental amounts of time. I'm in school for art, I highly doubt drawing more could possibly ruin anything I plan for my future. Though I probably SHOULD get out more often, that can be said for a lot of people these days. :P
I heard my dad yelling around the house that I undercharge. It's kind of difficult to charge exuberant amounts of money on the internet if no one knows who you are (truth). I try to keep my prices fair; a lacking in self-confidence might be to blame, but I don't think my skills have improved enough yet to increase my prices. That in mind, I spend eternities on each commission I do. x_x
Charging is tricky, I do it on an hourly scale with my pieces. I raised my prices so I could be above minimum wage. It is important for an artist not to undercharge themselves but I agree it is a lot harder to get commissioners if you're not well known art is probably one of the hardest fields of work to actually make a living on .
Agree, but the reason Furry has such a sexual meaning is because people don't try to prove otherwise. I think the view of the fandom *could* be changed, but it probably won't be. I gave in a few years back and just accepted the term furry, but I don't draw porn. I'm an enigma. :D
i'm sure if i tried to explain my likes an dislikes people wouldn't get it at all... even those that tried to be understanding..
i'm normal for the most part... i am alot more interested in skin, and humans than i am in fur and animals... i just think having the abilities like animals and what not is kickass... so that's where my "hafling/demi" fandom comes in... i just take my interest in human and human anatomy and mix it with a little fur here an there an you gots the ultimate being!!!! lol
anyway, so i'm just human lover floating in a sea of fur.... and frankly, i'm drowning... O_O
lol

Oh. Man. This reminds me of when I came out of the furry closet. My Mom's always been amazingly understanding. I showed her the first picture of Jammy ever drawn, and she's like 'Aww, she's cute!' instead of 'Why does she have boobs and so much hair?'. XD
Dad, on the other hand, had no idea I was a furry until two years ago, when he went to MFM with me. And, unfortunately, the night before was that horrible CSI episode (y'know, with 'Ms. Sexy'), so I was sweating bullets on the way there, because I told everyone I didn't trust with it that MFM was a gaming con (ah-ha! Cover.), and Dad was gonna walk and see the furriest fur I know, :userrocroldis:.
Long story short, he was thankfully understanding/uncaring. He's just happy I found something to devote myself to, after years of aimless wanderings. =3

Such a thing happened to me in NY before I moved. My friends would always call during my 'computer time' to see what I was doing.
And I quite "I'm on FA right now, and chatting of FurC and SL..."
"You're such a furry!"
Of course... They didn't know hat 'furry' was, but that I simply spoke of it. now, with my furry myspace, they all know and are like "OMG! I'm <Insert species here> I thought that it was called "Tooning!""

I believe that you can be a fur without
a.) Being into Yiff
or
b.) Wearing fursuits (only for convention tbf)
I have a friend who believes that you can only be a furry if you are into kinky screwing in costume, and everytime he says this i feel like setting him onfire. Cuz theres no reasoning with him.
Anyway, my point is that being a furry is as simple as having an interest in anthropomorphic animals, and thats it. But, whatever floats [one's] boat.
BTW: Great artwork!
