It has been more than a tough night. A mage duel that required most of my my arcane energy, a dangerous basilisk from another plane and finally an insane beholder. This old pilgrim site was more than a dangerous place. I had trouble handling many dangers that lie here, but I've made it.
I thought that place was worthless, just a ruined pilgrimage site, like everyone said. And then something called me. I didn't know what it was. I travelled back to the shrine at the top of the castle. The braziers were burning and the light was pointing at something.
At the shrine, I noticed something that wasn't here before; a magnificent blade was lying there. This weapon was calling me. This wasn't a simple item.
"You are worthy. Wield me proudly and claim your new title."
This is my destiny. From now, I shall wield Chroma and everyone should know me as Koviell Sashermasock, the Lord of the North.

Nifty effect. Though with it being an altar I'm more inclined to think it's a Legend of Zelda refference (which itself is based on legends of Excalibur, the Sword of Siegfried, etc.) I'll let my inner RPG.nerd show and ask if it's a shortsword, longsword, or other... relative to the wielder's size of course. What's Chroma's origin? Was it found, or an ancient artifact, or something?
Chroma is an artifact, a shortsword, but everyone draw Koviell with a longsword, I don't mind much. The weapon itself grow/shrink in size to fit his wielder.
If the weapon doesn't choose you, it's a magnificent magical sword that can hardly be wielded. If the weapon chooses you, it's a blade of pure energy and different wondrous effects.
It was a weapon wielded by one of the Lords of those lands. His body might have been weak at some point, but not his spirit.
Instead of getting eternal rest, he returned back as a ghost watching over the shrine.
When the Castle was attacked by a foreign race for the first time, he manifested on the battlefield, as a sign of hope that let the knight pilgrim push away the enemies from those lands.
After the battle, he returned to the shrine and placed Chroma in the Altar.
A part of his soul, his very essence remained in the blade before he finally gets in the other world.
Chroma was an holy symbol of the shrine from now.
10 years later, other foreigners took over the Castle and the pilgrims were chased.
The ownership of the lands changed from hands to hands till the Castle was just ruins and the King of Torabia, the last non-foreigner owner of the lands, gave up and stop sending troops to get back those lands and the Castle.
For all that time, the sword remained in the shrine with no one to take it.
